Hi Everyone, Our monthly staff meeting is upon us and I need some interactive staff activities to engage the staff in group discussion as well as team work. Any ideas ???? On the last meeting I made statements up of children's ages and they had to guess them, whilst working as a team. I also got them to take take part in a brain storm activity looking at the roles of a practitioner. I need some help in thinking of fresh need ideas. Suggestions welcome Thank you to all who welcomed me as new to the forum.

Does anyone know if one setting is closing and another is opening in the same space, can the Ofsted registration be transferred or do we need a new registration? Abby

Hi We are starting a toddler group at our pre-school setting on 25th July. It is for parents (or any other adults) and their children to come and play for 2hrs. It was a suggestion from our current parents to try and raise our pre-school numbers! Hopefully the children will move on from the toddler group to pre-school as they get older. Does anyone else do this? Has it increased your numbers at pre-school? What sort of activities do you provide? Has anyone got any photos of their room layout? Do the staff play with the children/talk to adults? I am assuming a mix of both. I have never been to a stay and play group so not sure what they involve! Sorry for all the …

Hi, I wondered how practitioners tackle discussing behaviour with the parents. We have a child who just recently has been causing a number of incidents, for example stomping on children, hitting, pushing, kicking. This has been logged and shared with the parent on collection, however today on collection dad blamed the setting and stated this is the only place he comes to and that he must be picking it up from someone. However staff notice the child behaves like this on his own accord. We feel he wants the attention from the adult and that is why he behaves the way he does. Can anyone offer any support as I have a meeting with the parents regarding this…

I'm doing a bit of a shake up and reorganising some roles. Our SENCo job description is a bit vague and generally not very good! Does anyone have a job description or list of responsibilities for this role? Thanks very much.

Hi folks, Can someone please give their take on having a named deputy? Is this just an 'internal' decision so everyone knows who takes charge/responsiblity when I'm not there..... or does it need to be named/shown in documentation, staff displays etc. We've had a shuffle round with staff and its been hard, but my 'second-in-command' doesn't want it broadcast that she is "only the deputy"....... and I'm not sure that this meets the requirements..... I personally think that parents should know the structure of the staff, she thinks thats only because I'm now the lead! Any advice, ideas or views would be very much appreciated! I would like to get rid of o…

We have recently had an outside revamp and the space is looking good. We now need to turn it into a learning environment rather than just a 'playground'. We have a large shed for storing items that are not in use or things we want to put away overnight. What I'm trying to figure out is how to have things out for continuous provision outdoors. What do you put your mark-making things in? Where do you display small world resources if you use them? What do you use as the equivalent of your indoor shelves? If you use trugs, boxes etc, where are they when the children aren't using them? Just on the ground or do you have outdoor shelving? Another issue is that our out…

Beautiful Stimulating Environment

I'm struggling to work out how to manage expectations to have a beautiful stimulating environment for children .... lucky enough to be in a setting where we don't have to tidy away, but it's very big. Children are encouraged to explore their own interests, mostly are allowed to transport materials around, though in discussion about whether small indoor resources should be allowed to be transported outside. Think we all want to offer children the absolute best. Message from the top seems to be that this entails everything being pristine...in reality this seems difficult to achieve, as children engage with materials in rather chaotic, sometimes unanticipated ways. It…
