help! we are moving over to our new school after easter and i went over to look at our new classroom for the first time today. it is fully carpeted and the reception teacher, who will be next to us, said she has been told not to have sand/water inside and preferably no paint/dough, unless carpet is covered and tables too. would ofsted think it is ok to only have these things outside? and i don't know what will happen when the weather gets cold. and there is no cover/canopy outside at all.......... i don't think our new head has an awareness of early years. she wants to keep it perfect. any suggestions? i am soooo worried

Help..... A few weeks ago I mentioned I was having problems with a few boys and disruptive behaviour. Well, this is still going on and we are really struggling. One of the problems is they continuously run around despite putting out lots of toys and creating activities that are new and different to engage their interest, we constantly remind them to walk, have put strategies in place such as rewards and several other ideas etc, yet nothing makes any difference. I am really not enjoying work at all as they are being so disruptive, the other children are getting overlooked as they take all of our attention. One boy is quite sturdy and in the past few days has cau…

HI all not sure after the year I have had I can believe I am even contemplating this but.... we are at present a charity run by parent committee and I am the manager. I have been seriously considering if I can take over 'ownership' of the pre-school. has any one else done this? there are so many questions I have at the moment running over, round and through the issues but I just wondered if anybody had any experience of doing this?

Just to set the scene, We have children from just 2 all the way up to children who were 4 in September all in one hall. In the past we never had these very young 2yr olds so some routines are proving challenging at the moment and one particular time is Story Time. At the moment we have story time just before snack, this enables us to have all the children together whilst one is setting out the tables and another is in the kitchen preparing snack - this has always worked really well and our last inspection commented on how well the routine worked - until now! These young ones can't / won't sit for a story - I have a minimum of 2 staff supporting the activity - we have …

Hi all I thought I read somewhere that there was new legislation coming in saying we couldn't count unqualified members of staff as part of the ratio even if you have 50% or more qualified staff in as well? I now can't find it anywhere did I imagine this?

Im looking into changing my current daily routine as im unhappy about how long the children are expected to "sit" for singing/story times and im hoping other people can tell me how they do it.. We are in a village hall but do have access to a smaller room which is currently used for singing/story times.. we arrive at 9am and have free play, 10.45 is tidy up time, we come together in the smaller room at 11am for singing (all children), the younger group the go outside for physical play at 11.15am whilst the older group stay sitting for story time, then the groups swap over, then come together again for home time at 12pm... We can have up to 24 children each session aged be…

Would love to hear what you have in your reading corners and how they are set out. Our corner needs a makeover. I have read the article on here and completed the audit and will act on the suggestions, but just want some more inspiration. :1b

our school have started doing workshops for parents, and have done year 6 first, and are now on year 1. the focus is maths. the children whose parents come to the workshop go into the school hall and do table-based activities with them to show how their child is learning maths in school. they want us to do the same in nursery, which i don't feel is appropriate, as our children will not want to sit doing activities at tables in the hall. i want to suggest a stay and play session instead, with parents stopping in nursery, not the hall, for an hour or so. 6 parents a day, so all class would be invited over the course of a week. and have a variety of activities on offer…

can a nursery nurse be left alone with 13 children or less in a school nursery? I'm out of class, and other nursery nurse is taking a group to the shop prior to setting up our own fruit and veg shop. i'll be back when the bigger group return, but it's just for half an hour or so thanks for reading x
