Hi All We have 2 little boys at our setting, one was 2 in October and the other turned 2 in January. They have been attending the setting since September for 1 session a week but they now do 2 sessions. We are having real problems with them hitting all the other children and trashing the room. They run everywhere, running into everything and everyone. They hit but I don't think they realise they are hurting people as they are playing whilst they are doing it. We have tried praise for all the good things they do which they love and we have tried sitting them out, getting them to say sorry etc. but to no avail. They also go around the room swiping everything off the tab…

I am a PGCE student on her last appraisal. Love being with nursery and hope to be nursery teacher. I have been told for appraisal to cover active 'real' experience and new learning. I am doing Little Red Hen week and have made scones for a previous appraisal. I thought to visit a bakery afternoon befor eappraisal and make bread on appraisal then do tasting bread in afternoon. I thought if objective was to carry out instructions/observe change and give children individual ingredients to carry out themselves. My stressing is failed last placement and worry wont pass so double thinking myself. I feel the baking is real experience, but unsure of new learning. Any feed…

Hi, I'm sure I have read on here somewhere that someone had set up a in their own home - running as 2 Child-minders? Just interested to find out what different types of settings are out their as well as the standard school nurseries, sessional pre-schools and day nurseries. If it is possible to set-up a setting in your home as a child-minder, I am assuming that you can state which age of children you are willing to take? Thanks Green Hippo x

We have recently had our Ofsted inspection and were told to try Free-flow outdoor play, however our nursery layout doesn't warrant this. Does anyone have any ideas on how to attempt this task? Any ideas would be a huge help! :1b

When it comes to group tidy up time towards the end of the session I am struggling to encourage the children to participate. All of a sudden they want to start making something or do a painting!! Has anybody got a technique that works.

Following on from Panders fantastic thread on shapes - I am looking for ideas to help our children with number recognition - seems to be a real struggle for this cohort. They can count but when we try recognition they don't have a clue - we have tried lots of games, taking things right back to basics but some are just not 'getting it' at all. There were some lovely ideas shared on shapes which I have pinched so I know you lovely people will have some ideas for my numbers

Am thinking of purchasing some of these from the wonderful cosy catalogue. Have read a blog where someone actually made their own. Has anyone done this, what would be the implications of it not having a safety kite mark etc?? They are quite a lot of money and we have so many trees and branches blown down here at the moment!! Would love some advice please.

we had a staff member away yesterday and were told no one could cover for last hour and a half of 3 hour session. we only had 26, but have 31 children on roll, so luckily we didn't go over numbers. i said we need 1:13 in nursery, but assistant head just said you'll have to manage and no one came to check if we were 'legal'. any advice gratefully received, as next time we may go over 26, as we only have 1 or 2 away generally
