Since we have changed classrooms, we now find ourselves with an outdoor shelter on the front of our building. I know for a fact that it costs a huge amount of money and don't get me wrong, in the summer it is a godsend, as it does provide shade. BUT because it has no sides the wind and rain whistle through it. (Always seems to be wet and windy in Cornwall at the moment) It means that we are unable to keep resources out there as everything gets soaked, including the children!! We are looking to put some kind of sides on it, but they would have to take a battering from the gale force winds we get and would have to be able to be rolled up in the summer to prevent it turni…

Hi I need to replace our aging armchair in our toddler room cosy corner. We are trying to create a home from home environment and so I'd really like an adult-size two-seater sofa to replace it so they can snuggle up for stories with their key-person. Does anyone have any suggestions of where to buy from - obviously needs to be durable and strong (our toddler room is notorious for testing things to the limits!). Have looked in Argos and Ikea but not sure whether their sofas are up to the challenge. Any ideas? Thanks in advance FF

Hii, I'm starting job as a room manager in the baby unit, I've worked with the babies before but I would really like to implement some new things into the room! Has anyone got any ideas of things that I can do? I've thought of doing a family display maybe around a mirror or something so the babies can look at their family members and maybe build a black and white den? Thanks in advance! ?

I've had a quick read, looks a bit half baked, but as I'm not a childminder I could be wrong http://www.nurseryworld.co.uk/nursery-world/news/1141714/ofsted-launches-consultation-childminder-agency-inspection-framework

Does anybody use any of the boogie mites programme? If so would love some feedback about it. I am quite interested in the phase one letters and sounds pack that they do, but it is quite a lot of money. Can you let me know what you think of it, also has anybody been involved in any training courses that they have done?

In a nursery setting do all staff members need health and safety or is it up to management to be up to date and cover all aspects with staff?

Just wondered what people offered for a 'settling in' procedure? We are always happy to work with the family re settling in etc and we have no problems there. We encourage parents to visit before their child's actual start date, but over the years this has been taken up less and less - infact this year we have 7 children who started with us who hadn't met any of us until the day their little ones started!! but that's a different story. What im wondering is what you offer re reduced payment, if anything? eg if a child is unsettled and in the end you call mum to come, and they decided to take them home for the rest of the session, what do you charge them? and how lon…

Does anyone keep a dog at their setting? I am thinking about getting a Jack Russell, but I work very long hours so was thinking of bringing it to work with me (I am the owner and manager of a day nursery) Now this of course takes a lot of thinking about and I wondered what others thought? Do you think it is just a big no? The plan was to build a run and kennel near our back door, with wire fence that you could see through but not get fingers through. Alternatively, we have a space in our garden that is fenced off and a run and kennel could be built there. It would still leave plenty of space for us. The dog would never have unsupervised access to the children or vi…
