Just interested in what you are all doing for your nativity/show. In the past we have just done the basic nativity story and we also did the owl and the star a couple of years. Anyone got any different ideas that they would like to share? Just trying to decide which route to go down..tried and trusted and basic or a bit different. Really got to make up my mind as the clock is ticking!! If the children had their way we would have a T rex, Iron man and some knights on stage!!! Did suggest to my deputy that this may be the way to go but she is not keen!! Any inspiration, ideas and new songs would be most welcomed. We are a group of 25 children from 2.5 years upto 4 year…

We are lucky to have a reasonably large garden which was mostly lawn when we moved into our premises two-and-a-half years ago. The first summer there was a drought and some of the grass died and/or wore away. The grass didn't grow back and we were left with a lot of muddy patches that winter. We used Safagrass matting and sowed grass seed under it the next spring. The matting is black rubber filled with holes and the grass is supposed to grow through it. It does this in the spring and summer but by late autumn (now!) mud comes through, obliterating the grass and we are left with a muddy mess. Last spring, I pulled up all the matting with some of my staff, got all …

Hi How do you deal with a child who repeatedly ignores any form of instructions? He has just turned 4, and despite EAL is now very fluent in it and has a very good understanding. When discussing right and wrong thing to do, reading stories or when his peers aren't following rules and instructions he is very very quick to give the answer and reason why they should be doing it or will comment that they aren't being nice. He refuses to share often saying but I don't want to share even if he has taken the toy off another child - there is no reasoning with him despite using the tactic that these are my toys (staff toys) and we like to share with our friends. …

Hi all This picture is the legs of one of the children at my setting. His little brother got it on Monday and the doctor said it was hand, foot and mouth disease. Then this little one got it one Wednesday but a lot worse than his brother and the doctor said it isn't hand, foot and mouth, chicken pox or excema. Two doctors have seen him and don't know what it is! He has a temperature and is generally feeling unwell and tired. He has this rash on his arms, legs, back, bottom, around his mouth and in his mouth. Mum said they are like blisters. They are hurting him and itching him. I have advised her to go to the hospital as the doctors don't know what it is and it's ge…

Hi I have recently taken over a nursery and we need to get a new printer fast!! I was looking for recommendations as there seems to be so much choice out there. It is a 48 place forest school nursery. As we are committed to reducing paper at the nursery, we will be sending as much information out as possible by email to our parents. Inevitably we will still be sending some forms/letters etc home and all of the usual management/ planning etc paperwork. We also would like it to print colour photos to a good standard. I also don't want to be spending a fortune on ink cartridges which I understand were so expensive the previous owner restricted the use of …

sand rules
by Guest- 16 replies

Hi All does anybody have pictures of sand rules? I talked over this with the staff team as we have a couple of 2 year olds, that pictures of how we come down the slide have worked really well. I took photos of a memeber of staff demonstrating coming down slide headfirst and feet first. With a red cross over head first and tick next to feet first. But they wern't sure this would work with the sand, and I'm not sure how I'm going to take the photos. we have a few children who regularry throw sand, or just drop in onto the floor, or put inside toys into the sand. I feel like I'm saying the same things every day, or removing these children from playing in the san…

I have searched through previous posts for a leaflet designed to encourage parents to support their children with maths at home. Despite being praised by Ofsted for all the maths work we do we feel that it is an area that the children really need extra support in. Has anyone already designed one before I tackle the challenge?
