Hi all Every time we have a visit from our improvement advisor she comments that we need to get more parental input into children's learning journey's. (easier said than done!) We tried using 'home diaries' which we filled each at the end of each week and parents were asked to fill in to say what their child had been doing at home. This worked for a couple of weeks for some parents then despite being reminding nearly everyday they didn't even remember to bring them back! We then gave each child a plastic a5 folder with some blank paper and blank 'wow' moment slips in for the parents to fill in when their child done something new at home. Well, since Easter we …

Am looking for some ideas on how to create a cosy book corner. I currently have a corner that has two wire standing book cases, a rug, two small cushion couches and is semi seperated from the rest of the room by low furniture. A staff member has suggested a canopy, but I always think that these look like great things for the little ones to pull on. We have incredibly high ceilings as we are in an old victorian building so it would not be easy to fix them. I was wondering about a kids gazebo?? Help, I need some inspiration!!! :1b

hi! our new head started today. it was a teacher training day and she mentioned nursery going into celebration assembly - we have joined with the junior school to make an all through primary. however i am not keen and reception teacher only wants her class going into celebration assembly! reception had to go all last year, but she is hoping a new head means she can do what she feels is more appropriate for her children. she also wants to stop going out at break time as they have access to outside anyway, and don't need it, plus it means having more flexibility to ensure class has a long period of uninterrupted time in the morning to become engrossed in ci activities.…

Hi All, Just wondering if there is a set rule on using shredded paper with print on for sensory experiences for children? In my previous setting we used any type of shredded paper. In my new setting some of my collegues are under the impression if the paper has been printed on you cant use it in play? Many Thanks.

I need to order a HUGE amount of sand to fill our newly inherited sand area. We always buy our sand from Tesco and are really happy with it, but it would take so many bags to fill it!! Does anyone buy their sand in bulk? if so where from?? :1b

Im currently looking after an 11month old baby who is blw. The problem I have is that she doesn't eat anything for me. She is drinking lots of milk - far more than I would expect a child of that age to have so she is obviously hungry. Ive tried chicken, vegetables, sandwiches etc. She just throws everything on the floor. I feel that its so wasteful. Im not a fan of blw as I feel a mixture of spoon fed and finger foods is best , but that's just my opinion. I respect the wishes of the parents though and Im trying to accommodate their needs. They say that she takes over an hour to eat breakfast - I don't have this amount of time with looking after other childre…
