Nappy changing Room

I am due to return to work in a few weeks to a nursery as a nursery manager. I have not worked at this nursery before and working for a church run nursery will be very different from what I'm used to. Some thing that stuck out to me as I walked around is the baby room. This is for 0-2 yrs where as I'm used to the age group being split up in 0-1years, 1-2. Does any one else work with such a wide age range? Also the nappy changing room and sleep room are into together which I found very strange. Being one of two managers I'm not sure how much control I will have over changing things but I was interest to see if any one else works in a nursery set up in the same way. …

Following Childrens Interests
by Guest terrydoo73- 15 replies

We are in the process of having an independent consultant helping us with planning and observation. One of the things which we haven't received full training on yet is this following childrens interests. Now how exactly does this work. One child comes in and has a book of the latest tractor models, then another talks about volcanos none stop and a third child goes on about her pet dog. Now if we follow spontaneous planning do we put out something to cater for all these particular interests at one time? What happens when you have say 12 children all having an interest in different things how do you cater for it - am thinking of the problem with say a fire engine, a fa…

Need some advice from you wise people as I am at a loss. We have a child who has started with us this term, He comes one morning a week and is dropped by Granny/Grandad as parents are working. on his first morning Mum left and the child was upset and could not be comforted or distracted. He was sick once and then would not be tempted into the playroom. I phoned home and asked for someone to come and help settle him. Grandad arrived and the child was then happily distracted and did manage to join in with a large group story at the end of the morning. Mum did then think to tell us that he does make himself sick when he wants too!! His second session he seemed to settle q…

Hi all, Our setting caters for children aged from 2yrs until they go to school. We currently focus solely on Phase 1 phonics and use a lot of the activities in the letters and sounds document. One of our children attends another setting in addition to ours. She turned 3 last November. I have just asked them to complete a sheet detailing her next steps and they said they want to extend her knowledge of phonics such as the initial sound of words. With us, she shows no interest in phonics but does love mark-making which we strongly encourage. So, I was just wondering are we not doing enough with just focussing on phase 1? If they were showing an interest then th…

Hi Everyone, Its been a long time since posting on here and its taken me about an hour to figure it out. but anyways................... i would like to ask you all for any advice, support and templates that you may have? i work in a day nursery in the west midlands, which i would call a large nursery (84 children). The practitioners at the setting have struggled for sometime with knowledge on the planning system and the EYFS, however we have supported each other and now are getting somewhere. i have recently implemented a new planning system as i believe the girls were ready and it is going well. Having said this, we do not feel it is working well within o…
