Hubby's starting to lose his rag with other people's kids in the house and their mothers cluttering up the hall. So where can I go from childminding? For me this lititle business is perfect. Part time, not bad money, can bring inthe washing if it rains, I'm important in people's lives, get to play with babies, my boys have me available if they need me. I have level 4 cert in EY. Working towards open university open Hons degree - the last two years of which will be early years modules. I don't want to work in a nursery unless there was a part time management job and then I'd really prefer to be hands on. Can any clever people think about what sorts of opportu…

Hello Everyone It's been four years since I worked in a nursery as I have been working as a childminder while my son was young. I decided to take the plunge back into a nursery managers role and I have an interview next week!! :1b The only thing is I have to do a ten minutes presentation entitled 'Maintaining Compliance and Quality in a Day Nursery''. I was feeling quite confident to begin with but this has completely thrown me. I was think of including thing's such as, regular training and staff meetings, audits, peer on peer observations, including staff in the Sef of the setting. But after that I'm feeling a little stuck. Should I break it down by immed…

Hi all A child I look after has been off today as they had to take him to A&E last night. Mum text me at 2am(!!) this morning to tell me child would not be attending as he has inflamed tonsils and ear drums. They were given antibiotics to give him if the pain hadnt gone later in the day. Mum has just text to say that 'a load of yellow gunk' has come out of his ears and the doctor has said to start the antibiotics. She said he seems fine but tired after his long night. She wants him to come back to me tomorrow but Im not happy about this as surely he is still infectious as he has had to start antibiotics? Am I right to say no? Surely he wont have got ove…

I have successfully rented an allotment from my local parish council for the last three years, they were fully aware that I was a childminder when I applied and was planning to take the children in my care to the site. Just over a month ago my parish council decided to stop me from doing this, claiming that I was breaking the 1922 Allotment Act. I know that many councils throughout the country are happy to have childminders, nurseries and pre-schools on their allotment sites and this is where you can help. In a couple of weeks time I am having a meeting with the council to try and find a way forward and what I would like to be able to do is to show them, is that the 1…

It seems the drive to have pre-school children taking part in structured, formal education extends to the US. See what Teacher Tom has to say about it. http://teachertomsblog.blogspot.co.uk/ Wouldn't you love to see a debate between Tom and Truss?

Hi We have a small outdoor area that currently consists of 3 large wall mounted blackboards! We have had a lot of our equipment destroyed by mice as they have ate there way through it! We now need to replenish but committee are refusing to give a budget for this as feel we will just have the same issue again so I am on the hint for cheap/free ideas that I can use to replenish it. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated thanks

So..........one of my lovely boys suffered a fractured leg a few weeks back - cast on - now removed (2 weeks ago) My question is - should his leg be returned to 'normal' or would you expect to see him 'dragging' it and his foot to be 'turned out'? Is this just muscles that need to start to work again? I was really quite concerned when I saw him this morning - didn't want to say too much as it was granny dropping him off - will see mum on Friday........

I look after a child who is nearly 7yrs old. I have known the family since she was a few weeks old and looked after her since she was 20months. I get on really well with both parents who separated around 18months ago. Recently, dad wrote on facebook that his child had been watching 'Bride of Chucky' and it was one of her favourite films - this is rated 18!! I challenged him about this to which he replied that it wasnt that bad. The child now visits dad every weekend and during this time acts out zombie roles, complete with facepaint, which are filmed by dad and his friend and put on facebook. This makes me very incomfortable. As Im friends with both mum and…
