We have a 4 year old from a traveller community. Parents did ask me to help with her toilet training because they were worried because they tell me that the childs school will exclude her if she is not using toilet. I find this hard to believe.!!! The child comes in wearing a nappy, she ocassionally brings a change of nappy. The child is happy to use the toilet when with us with reminders. I have repeatedly asked parents to provide underwear for child which they refuse to do.At the moment we are using spare pull-ups that have been donated. The child actually asks to wear a pull up .Parent got so annoyed with me today and told not to keep telling her that child used toil…

We are trying to make our nursery more 'Wow' when you walk in! It's a big space and the areas aren't too well defined. After some fairly half baked suggestions (!) from KS1 and 2 staff we have made some changes, only to be hit with the phrase ' Boys don't like drapes' We had been advised to make some areas a bit more defined so have :o used some drapes :o . What do others think and what evidence is there for either argument ( before I implode!!! )

I am a child minder and currently looking after a child who has just turned 3yrs old. He has communication difficulties and I am in the process of liasing with HV, SLT etc with a view to him seeing a paediatrician as I think he has an ASD. He has just started at a nursery to do his funded hours - 3hrs a day, 5 days a week. They told parents at his induction day that he was ready to toilet train! How could they possibly know in that short amount of time. I on the other hand dont think he is. He doesnt know when he has pood and when I ask him he either says yes (when he hasnt) or looks blankly. Nursery have also suggested to parents that they put him in pull ups. If…

We have an area where parents can congregate at drop off and pick up times and I feel it could do with a bit of va va voom! 1 information board has Ofsted registration certificate, insurance certificate and copies of safeguarding policies plus a few others Another board has photos of the children and what they have been doing for the week (I change this once a week) the ones I take down are put into a photo album. A table has our policy book, various information books, photo album, Ofsted report etc - which the parents rarely look at What else do you have in your entrance area? Or how can I brighten up what we already have? Many thanks

We run our playgroup from a village hall and have to share our storage cupboard. This means that the store cupboard cannot be locked as it needs to be accessed by other users in order to use the tables and chairs. We then find that our equipment is often used and our things are not put back properly and we end up having to move everything around on a monday morning to get to the stuff we need! We are also limited on what we can fit in the cupboard as the village hall has a large amount of equipment in the cupboard e.g. an organ, bouncy castle and a fridge! How do others in pack away setting deal with storage? Do you keep things at home and take them in as…

ok ...interesting problem. I have a family who went on extended leave to India (WBR family) in Dec. They were due back end of Jan ...or at the latest feb. They are still not back. We have rung /left messages/phoned emergency numbers etc....no response. I rang SS today....who told me that if i couldn't get hold of them to contact the police and report them as missing They do not owe us money. I don't have a problem with their place...they were desperate not to lose it. We have a good relationship with them...so i don't think they have done a bunk from us. I have been round to the house and cannot find any evidence that anyone is there...apart from a small window whic…

Has anyone started up or moved to a portable building? If so can you give me any help or advice about the process? What company did you use? Did you have a refurbished building? Is it straight forward? Any feedback would be welcome. :1b

Hi Where do you keep children's progress summaries? We currently put one copy in the child's learning journey and keep a copy in their personal file. We also have a copy saved on the computer. Also, how much detail do you put on these summaries. We do them once each term and I think we may be putting too much on them as they take such a long time to do! Any advice? Thanks x
