I have 2 siblings that have constant head lice all the time. The elder child started as a 2 year old funded child, had head lice from day 1.I have tried offering advice, mum is using nitty gritty, conditioner, repellant and lotions..Children are constantly scratching. I know head lice is not serious but I feel sorry for the sisters and all the other children. I know all children may catch them, have treated my own children and granchildren but most parents do manage to get rid of them.We are constantly conscious of them resting their heads near other children and adults and I feel thats really bad of me.We remind parents to tie back their childrens hair anyway.Health visit…

I have a concerned parent who has asked me for advice...I mentioned to her that on the two days he comes to us that he falls asleep by 11am every time....not a problem for us but it interferes with his nap times at home, Mum mentioned today that he has the habit of banging his head very hard on the wall just before he goes to sleep, she showed me a bald patch underneath his hair ( I had not seen it before) and asked me what to do about it! she said the health visitor told her to take away his comforter blankie! but ( and it seems obvious to me) its got worse! mum has now taken to getting him up and bringing him downstairs so that he does not wake his siblings! hence why h…

I had a phone call last night from someone at our village church and she wants us to choose a line from a carol and make decorations from it to decorate a small tree in the church. Any ideas for a line from a carol that will give us scope to make decorations that will interest the children. I have thought about while shepards watched their flocks as we could do sheep and shepards. Any ideas welcomed. I know loads of songs we could do but they are not carols!!! Now all that is left for me to say is.... BAH HUMBUG!!

Childminding assistant?

Hi I have been debating for a while about whether to employ an assistant to help with general day to day activities and school runs. I was wondering if anyone already does this that can share advice on tax, NI implications. I've been told that I would need to offer things like maternity pay/sickness pay, if so how would this work? If I was allowed to increase my child ration what implications does this have on liability insurance? I am currently insured to care for up to 9 children at any one time. Would this be increased with an assistant being avalable? Any advice would be sincerely appreciated. Kind regards wendy

Thumb sucking 1 2

We have a little boy who loves to suck his thumb and twiddle his hair at the same time. We think it is attention seeking and have tried to ignore it as much as possible - after we tried the method of cajoling him every time the thumb went it realised that this wasn't working so resorted to the ignoring method! Yesterday he spent an entire first hour just sitting sucking and twiddling with us ignoring all the time but then there was no real play. Obviously we want to address this but not give him the attention he obviously wants from us. We tried yesterday of using a feeling bag (we are looking at senses over the past week) and had quite an interest from half a doze…

Hi Guys, ive got a bit of a quandry, one of my key children has started displaying really agressive behaviou r and has a complete melt down if he cant do exactly what he wants i.e waiting a turn on a bike/ child not wanting to play with him. Hes always been biostrous, but so lovely. He can be very loud, lots of energy and just recently trying to make friends and play with others. My observations show he can play really calmly with some of the girls, in a boy group he gets overly excited. He likes to get his own way and will defend others hes playing with. He gets silly sometimes also (What 3 yr old doesnt ) Reading though the development matters statements…

Hi Just wondering if anyone has a foolproof recipe for bubble painting? Not having much success at the moment with the colour actually 'getting into the bubbles' so when the children press the paper on top really only getting ....er .... not a lot. I have googled it and found many different suggestions including bubble mixture and ink, bubble mixture and poweder paint and then of course washing up liquid/ ready made paint or powder paint and water. Fiddling around for ages with different quantities so thought I would ask you lovely people about which combinations you use and some idea of quantity/ration of ingredients
