Hi every body I have to run an internal course on behaviour management just as a recap for older staff and maybe a first look for new staff and students. It is timely as we have a child with very challenging behaviour at the moment so it is part of our response strategy! Anyway a lot of the handouts that I have saved up from my own training are a little out of date I wondered if anyone on here has written their own training and if you have any slides/handouts or info/resources you would be willing to share? thanks in advance xx

Hi This may seem like a silly question but how often do you change the activities you put out in the room each day? At the minute, we plan at the end of each week what we will have out the following week and the same activities are put out each day for that week. I have been thinking that maybe the children get bored of the things that are out? We are also finding that the children do not actually play at an activity very often- they would rather run around the room or play in the cloakroom pretending to be animals and crawling round. Any advice?

we seem to be being asked to do more and more tasks that i feel are not in our job re-mit, and is taking us away from the children if we do them in the session, or our learning journeys, if we do them after the session. am i just moaning or is reasonable to expect us to do these? closing and opening (padlock) the school gate when our parents leave and come back, as anyone could wander into the rest of the school grounds otherwise shredding - office only do their own shredding ordering stock for school when we take last one sluicing mops if we use them and emptying any liquid in them - cleaner does clean them once a week if she remembers do a risk assessment of gro…

Overnight care

Question?!!!!!??? I have just received my notice of intention to remove all variations from my registration certificate, I knew this was coming, now the question is this, I know I can make my 'own variations' as long as I stay within the standards, so any I already have will still stand so to speak, my husband is my assistant for emergency cover with parental permission which I have, so thats fine, BUT what about the OVERNIGHT CARE variation I have/had for 2 children? The only refference to overnight care i can find is that you must be able to hear the child, a monitor is acceptable. So does this mean that all childminders can now provide overnight care? as long as t…

Hi! I work in a maintained nursery as TA ( and am EYPS). Both I and the teacher dress like we did when working in a classroom so fairly smart 'proper' clothes and shoes etc as is expected in a school!! Yesterday for end of term dismantling and packing away for winter of the climbing frame we both were in jogging bottoms and trainers etc. We both found we were warmer doing outdoor and far better dressed for running about and crawling on the floor etcas we do day to day!! The question is as the title says : what do you wear to work if you are in a school nursery?!

Hi, Im looking to subscribe to an early years/childcare magazine any advice on which one would be great! I manage a playwork setting but want to try and and stay in touch with 'early years'. That said some relevance to playwork would be good too. Unfortunately there dont seem to be any aimed specifically at playwork. I am thinking maybe nursery world? any suggestions gratefully received! Hi all I have my assessment for EYPS on 4th December on a Tuesday which is the only day we are open all day. We are also due OFSTED any time! What do you think the chances are of OFSTED turning up on the same day as my assessment? I am really worried as I think it would be a disaster as I am the manager and there is only me and one other member of staff. What do you think?

Hi all, Desperately need some advice please. We have some children who are physically aggressive towards other children and staff. Two children are particularly challenging throughout the session but become much worse at the end of the session where they will throw boxes of toys across the room, up turn chairs and attempt to tip tables, push, punch, kick and wrestle to the ground other children, One child in particular is very aggressive at this time and will laugh at staff who attempt to address any unwanted behaviours. we give a 5 minute warning using a timer that it will soon be time to tidy up and as soon as we do they begin their assault. ABC obs have identifie…

Hi All Just wondered if anyone uses a good scheme for teaching French in Nursery? By that, I'm thinking of one dellivered by current Nursery staff rather than a visiting specialist teacher? Would be very grateful for any info! Thanks x
