Following on from children's questionnaires

I posted here a few weeks ago looking for an idea to find out more about children's interests in terms of a questionnaire. We have now received all the questionnaires returned and there are so many different things on these that we cannot really follow a specific interest as such. However after attending a cluster training event this past week when we were dealing with how to help children settle in terms of their personal social emotional development, I want to use these replies effectively. I thought of doing a collage of pictures from favourite tv characters - Peppa Pig, Postman Pat, Fireman Sam, Octonauts etc making it into a poster and then perhaps putting pict…

Following on from another post, do any of you have a daily routine poster? I have no problems in getting pictures of the children playing both inside and out and during snack etc but how do I get one of them arriving and leaving every day? What sort of a picture could I use??

Area pictures

I attended a meeting this week which suggested ideas to help children settle in the first few weeks. One thing we all agreed upon is the value of area pictures to help children find their way but something I picked up on which I wanted your advice on as to whether you do this and the value of it before I implement it in my setting. When a child is doing a painting or using the junk art material to create something, take a picture of the child in the process then attach it to the painting as it goes up on the board. The child will recognise their own picture before the painting with their name on it apparently! I thought it was quite a good idea and can see the meri…

Christmas Hamper

As part of our fundraising strategy we are going to have tea towels printed with the children's hand prints on them. To launch these we are having a coffee evening with home made goodies on sale as well as a raffle for a Christmas Hamper. We have also booked a few craft stall holders who will be charged per stall. I need help with organising our Hamper. We want to ask parents to supply items to put into the hamper for example kitchen foil, cling film, tins of food etc. Anyone do this before and could suggest a list of items to post in our foyer for parents to tick off that they will provide these etc. We want to put it out after half term so that people are not runn…

Has anyone any ideas for creating a quiet area in a noisy room?! Usual money constraints of course. We are a packaway setting. It's becoming increasingly noticeable that various children benefit from small group language activities but the room is so noisy most of the time, with wooden floors into the bargain that it's a losing battle, for us and them. One member of staff suggested we keep a group inside whilst the others go out but that almost seems like a punishment!

I feel very confused at the moment, I spent the summer, like most of us making up new planning formats, introducing a CP plan and changing all paperwork to reflect the revised EYFS. I think my planning is now ok and reflects childrens interests and next steps. I also have some continuous provision where we add enhancements. And until I am told any different this is what I am going with. We have always filled our learning journeys with lots of snap shot observations, childrens work and photo's, we fill out a tracker sheet every term which is put in the learning journey and then the next steps. Each observation and photo is linked to any areas of learning that it cove…

Frustration!

We had a committee meeting today to elect new parents for this year. None of the parent showed they simply can't be bothered. We have asked for parents to help with outings and welly walks - again no one is interested because they do not like having to give up their time to support their child at pre school. Which means we can't go on any outings until we have parents helping. I hand out learning journals for parents to read and write comments. They hand them back, pretend to read them and never bother writing in them. Does anyone have any good ideas of motivating parents for contributing to journals or generally helping out? I've just had enough really!

I went on a child protection course and was told as a manager we need to have staff supervision forms for all our staff. Not sure what this means or what needs to be Included? Does anyone have more information on this? Can anybody help me with this? Obviously, staff are supervised and we all have our personal development plans etc. Thanks guys!
