We have a fairly small garden surrounded by a picket fence on three sides. Does anyone have any inspiring ideas of how we can make the fence more interesting, more secluded and safer, they do tend to climb it and a child once got her leg stuck between the bars! Any photos of lovely gardens would be wonderful.

Outdoor Play Equipment Trolley

We have a little bit of grant left over which has to be spent in the next 3 months and I was thinking along the lines of an outdoor play equipment trolley. Does anyone have one? Is it useful enough to recommend the purchase of one if money was available? Can you recommend one? At present we work with individual baskets - one for golf, one for sand, one for water, one for planting, one for small world, one for mark making etc etc and when putting them out each day I just thought wouldn't it be better to wheel something like this out with everything on it and the children can help themselves to whatever! We have had such brilliant weather this week and our outdoor play…

One of our staff members has just left on maternity leave. She cant find out whether she would be able to claim any help towards childcare costs when she comes back to work (22.5 hrs). She lost her working tax credit last year after a change, but can the child care element be claimed separately? If she comes back and uses a childminder she'll be paying our 75% of her salary for the service so without help she might have to give up work all together. :1b

I am new to this site and wondered if anyone out there could advise me on what to do with information I have following a call from CSC today regarding a child and an incident in the home which needed msocial care intervention. Initial assessments are being made of the family and they needed my input into how the child beahved etc in the setting. Now I have this infromation what do I do with it! I've never had to deal with anything like this before (luckily) and am now running scared with it.

Anyone got any ideas on how to enhance our indoor construction area? The children are never interested AT ALL in this area indoors. Outside is a different matter - they love building with the planks, crates, tubes etc... but show no interest indoors. I just can't think of anyway to make it more interesting!

I've planned in lots of different ways over the years and like most people have changed and tweeked and even chucked out and started again as policy and practice changes. We are a 44 place day nursery and my question applies to all three of our age groups (babies, toddlers, pre-schoolers) but has the most impact in our pre-school room. Because the children are nearly all part-time (from 3 - 50 hours a week, but mostly between 15 and 30 hours a week) we can have 60 children on role for that room alone. There are 26 children at a time and 4 key members of staff. We had an Ofsted inspection last September and were told that we were not clearly showing the progress that c…

If you have a handbook is it functional or pretty, is it loose leaf or bound. Any ideas greatfully received.

We have a little boy at playgroup and he has terrible tantrums whenever he is asked to do something, told no, or if he can't get his own way. I know this is normal of a lot of 3 year olds. But he has recently started becoming really violent to children, staff and his mum. He gets rellly cross with whoever has upset him. We asked our area senco for advice and she suggested (with mums permission) that we use a thinking chair. This worked well for a while but now he says "i'm scared" and throws himself on the floor and headbangs the floor/wall. Mum is a single parent and is really struggling with him. We have referred him for behaviour management through the childre…
