Enhancing Home Corner/role Play

We have a home corner which at present consists of lovely wooden items for a sink, cooker and larder as well as the microwave. Then we have set out a table and 2 chairs with the usual plates, cups and mugs/cups/glasses which we swap around each month. In the larder we tend to have "real" items such as the tomato ketchup jar, butter container etc etc. We would usually swap around a few items each month - say toaster and wooden bread one month, then say a saucepan and more real looking food with the usual utensils to do with this. Also in this area is a telephone and directory plus address book. We have put in menus from local restaurants etc and there are dolls a plen…

Hi All We are planning a christmas outing for our pre-school children to the sea-life centre. Do we have to hire a coach from a company? or are we able to hire a minibus and my dad drive it (he has a coach driving licence)? I'm not sure how it works with insurance. Parents are happy with this option but I don't know if I am legally allowed? What do you do when you go on trips? Any advice would be great!

Nursery Rhyme/physical Play
by Guest terrydoo73- 12 replies

Yesterday was a horrendous day for us weather wise so we decided to clear some space, put on a CD and do some physical nursery rhymes. The majority of children really loved this idea and got into all the music except 1. This seems to happen a lot with this child. He wanders around the room and starts to finger the other toys available. The advice we received from our Early Years Specialist was just ignore him as he has chosen not to join in but ... We don't have the room for him to wander about as he endangers other children trying to get space to do the exercises and he could cause an accident. He just loves the attention this action gains as he constantly…

Hi all! We've just made an adjustment to our Construction area so that the children can build off the wall as well as on the floor. Problem is that we had to remove things that were previously stuck to the wall. We've found some pictures to cover marks left behind, but I'm looking for some construction related words to display and my mind is drawing a blank. Any ideas would be great! So far I've got: Construct Assemble Create Build Stack Connect Make Bricks Blocks Any more ideas, anyone? Thanks!!

My cousin has asked for my advice regarding her youngest son. He is 20 months old and is the youngest of 3 children. He has a sister who is 30 months and a brother who is 5yrs. He just screams and cries for most of the day everyday! He can be playing and he will just start screaming while he is playing. There is nothing anyone can do to console him when he is like it. He also throws himself on the floor and has started banging his head against the floor. She is also worried that he will not play anywhere near other children, he will stand and watch. When they move away he will then go to play. She has took him to the doctors countless times and they say he is jus…

Fundraising

We are a small playgroup funded by a local community group in Northern Ireland with a maximum of 12 children attending the daily 2 1/2 hour session September to June. Last year we raised £2000 through a parents fundraiser - recipe books and coffee evening. The parents of children returning this year are looking forward to raising this amount again and we need your help in suggesting possible fundraising ideas. The Committee recenlty took ownership of an old school within the village and are planning an Early Years Centre with the Playgroup in one side with an Afterschools Club in another section. We receive no government funding but there is a small community contr…

Hi All We are looking at buying a tumble tots CD from amazon. There are 3 to choose from. Has anyone ever used these and recommend which one we should buy first? We don't want to waste money on buying all of them if they are not what we need. Thanks

We enter a local competition 2 or 3 times a year for a bit of fun. Its run by a local society and has an 'under 8's' section. Usually there is quite a narrow brief such as a drawing of a flower or a house and a garden. Usually one or two of our children win prizes - a (very) small amount of money and some sweets and everyone gets a small prize for entering. The children love it! The next competition is on September 8th and the only brief is 'any craft item'. We are open all summer so have time to make things, but are a bit stuck with what... The children involved are between 3 and 8 years. Any ideas welcome... Thanks! Beehive

Hi all, We introduced the option of providing teeth cleaning in the nursery for the children after meals; all the parents had to do was bring in their toothbrush and a wash bag for it to be kept in. The problem we have at the moment is finding the time to do this. Does anyone have any suggestions? GumBear x
