We have a small square table set against a book rack. Beside this is a large 3 shelved bookcase and another set of 2 tables pushed together with 6 chairs around them. Inside the bookcase we have on the top shelf paper (plain and coloured), card, wrapping paper, stickers then on the bottom 2 shelves all sorts of materials - pencils, crayons, cotton wool, tin foil, boxes of all sizes and descriptions, pasta, lentils, peas, pine cones, sequins etc etc. Our children tend to go to the large table and make all sorts of creations. We have kept the small square table purposely for mark making and have in the past put on this table - drawing books, blackboards, markerboards et…

Hi all, We are looking at asking parents to provide a pair of slippers for their child to wear indoors at playgroup. Does anyone else do this and how do you manage it? What response do you get from parents? Do you also ask parents to provide wellies for outdoors? Thanks :1b

I need some tables and chairs for my 2-3 year old childrens room and I am struggling to find any the right size. I have tried TTS, GLS etc and all I seem to find are tables suitable for 18-24 months and 3-4 years. I am on a budget and need a few so community playthings and the like are sadly out of my range (one day-in my dreams-I will be able to shop in their catalogue. I just need to double the number of children I have). Can any of you point me in the direction of a supplier please?

We are a 2 1/2 hour session Playgroup meeting from September to June and would you believe it I am already planning for next year! I want to look at all areas of our provision and see what we can do to enhance it. The reason - we have 8 children who were 3 this year (with us since September last) who will be coming back in September 2012 for their preschool year. We also will have a further 4 joining them each day who will be 3 years of age. It makes it difficult but we want to clearly see specific learning intentions and outcomes with a purpose while at the same time livening things up for those returning but at the same time being able to observe specific things! C…

I am a childminder and look after, among others, a little boy who is 2yrs 3months. Over the past few months he has been hitting the other children in my care - he doesnt hit any other children at play sessions etc. During the past couple of weeks though, it has been getting much worse and has now escalated to kicking and trying to stand on others if they are on the floor. The hitting can be almost constant. In the past 2hours he has hit around 100 times - no exaggeration. He also hits his parents at home and hits with cars etc in his hands. I took the children out in the car yesterday and he spent the whole journey hitting another child. This is obviously a proble…

Our playgroup is based in a village hall and has double doors leading to what we use as the cloakroom area and the toilets. The children love to play out there and in the toilet and spend ages washing their hands. We do discourage them playing in the toilet- would you do the same? but we thought it was ok for them to play in the cloakroom (its quite a large space) as there is lots of language and role play that happens out there, especially for the quieter children who think we can't hear/see them! Our improvement advisor said we should not let them out into the cloakroom and should block of the double doors somehow? as ofsted wouldn't like it! We did have ofste…
