Painting Outside

With all this brilliant weather we have been having this last week we have taken most of our resources outdoors. I have an ELC easel - wipeboard on one side and a blackboard on the other. We use it as a painting easel allowing 2 children to paint at one time but we are having a problem with firstly the paper staying on the board - there are 2 clips supplied with the board which do not hold the page tight enough and then secondly with the pots of paint staying upright. We use the pots with lids and a paintbrush in the middle but they seem to keep flying off onto the ground and making such a mess - thankfully it is outdoors! What does anyone else use? Perhaps someone h…

Im looking for ideas for our graduation in July. We've been doing it for the last 4 years and it has been working really well. But this year there has been so much going on ive hardly had any time to get my team together and gather some ideas. We normally have the children in fancy dress and act out nursery rhymes or sing a couple of special songs. I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas to make this graduation the best one yet. I did have the idea of me reading the childrens favourite book 'Dr Seuss - Green eggs and ham' and having the children join in but that is my only thought.

Hi, I am after some advice please... we have a little boy in our setting who has become increasingly upset when saying goodbye to mum, and at various points in the session. The little boy went through this a while ago, and had just about come out the other side of this until a few weeks ago. Now we have tears every morning when he gets dropped off, Mum says the tears start at about 6am, and continue off and on until he is brought to nursery. He will calm down, but then follows me around for an hour or two before starting to play. The slightest thing will set him off again, such as me leaving the room, a change to routine etc. He makes himself gag if another child…

Here's the scenario: on the way home tonight, I stopped at my local newsagents to post a letter. I scanned the adverts in his window and saw one for summer holiday childcare. The number looked familiar and on checking, it turns out to be one of the mums from my setting. She has two boys of her own, aged 3 and 2. The younger one needs lots of attention and mum is often short-tempered with both boys. She is honest in her advert and says she is NOT registered, but will provide: home-cooked meals trips out to paces in her car nature walks reports on the children's activities. fees are negotiable she says she can care for children from 7am-7pm and will take any age …

Just looking for ideas for the Jubilee Celebrations. We are planning to put out some items next week in the run up to the weekend so have some kings costumes and tiaras (looking for queens outfits but cannot source these so any help in this respect would appreciate!). We also have a lovely palace for small world play and in the home corner have some beautiful goblets and tableware to match. Any other ideas of resources we could be putting out? We are planning to make some crowns with the children but would love some more ideas.

Early Mathematical Experiences

I am trying to work out if my preschoolers can understand the idea of size and quantity as well as sorting and grouping. What activities could I do with them? The obvious is when in the water tray and looking at the size of the bottles they are filling but I was thinking along the lines of a group activity that would involve everyone to talk about size and quantity perhaps even light and heavy the shape of things and looking at the colours or creating patterns?? Obviously it would be good to tie in with our theme of people who help us - my Deputy would question doing something way off the theme just for the sake of covering the mathematical aspect for the sake of it!

Currently we buy our children's milk when we are doing our weekly shop and they drink it out of stage appropriate cups, we are a pre-school running from a church hall. What we are wondering is does anyone have the small cartons of milk that they get given in school nursery/reception? If so where do you get them from?
