Hi One of our parents who lives directly opposite playgroup came in this morning and asked what I have planned for the Diamond Jubilee. I told her we had not planned anything yet. She then said she was glad and said would it be possible for us to take the children over to her house and we can have a teddy bear's picnic in the garden. She has a large garden with lots of garden toys including a 2 storey playhouse, wavey slide, ball pit etc. She said she would make some cakes and we could make things with the children the day before to take over and they could bring their favourite teddy and dress up as a king or queen or wear red, white and blue. What do you think…

Has anyone bought this app? I downloaded a free trial today and it seems to have potential but I can't see how you can make comments without photos and I need to be able to do that. Our camera is broken so I'm thinking about getting an iPod touch instead and using its camera and maybe this app. OH says I should get an iPad instead but that's beyond my budget I think! Thank you

Fruit Art Ict

Hi all, We got the call this morning - ofsted are in on Wednesday... Just need some help finding a resource please. We are doing growing at the moment and when I was planning over half term, I cam across an ICT activity based on the artist Guiseppe Arcimboldo. The children had to drag the fruit to make a picture. I want to use it when Ofsted are here and cannot find it anywhere - I've searched all over and I know I came across it by accident last time - that'll teach me not to bookmark! If anyone knows what it is, please could you help me and save me some time searching?! Many thanks Miss Carrie x

Do You Do Observations During Normal Playgroup Routines?

At the moment we are trying to prepare transition reports for our children moving to school in September. I am working with bullet points from the transition reports and last week realised I have nothing in my obs to match some of these points so have been trying hard to fill in the gaps - which I assumed you would do for the last term just to ensure you are providing an accurate picture of the child to the Primary School. My Deputy went crazy when she found out what I was doing claiming that we shouldn't be doing this - reason being - the children were noticing and playing up terribly. I personally think that this is all part of normal daily routine - children do l…

How do you deal with a child who claims everything is his! We have a fire engine station and lots of different sizes of fire engines and people on shelves beside it. This particular little boy is mad about fireman Sam and apparently has quite a collection at home. He refuses to let others play in this area so much so that he drives everyone away before too long. He gets quite upset if anyone does come near him and starts to play with the personnel and puts a fire engine into the station. Before you say it we have done the chat about "these are playgroups toys and everyone plays together at playgroup" but to no avail. He is quite violent in that he snatches t…

Hello all I recently came across the idea of Little Big Maths (on the TES forum). I have googled and been to the company's website who run this course but they do not give much information away regarding what the materials are and how the scheme is set up. Has anyone out there used this in nursery and if so would you mind sharing some information with me as I would really like to know more before we decide to buy into it. I have heard that it can be pretty amazing in developing children's maths skills so am keen to find out more. cheers apple

Hello all! I was wandering if anyone knows of anywhere that I could get hold of a child sized washing up bowl that might fit a play kitchen unit? The one at my pre-school got broken and we haven't been able to find one anywhere to fit the hole!!! Also, does anyone know of where I could track down a wooden framed water tray (a decent sized one)? Another item we have been struggling to track down! There is a bit of a 'wooden' theme with the toys and equipment going on at my setting!!!! If anyone has any ideas, they would be very well received!! Thank you very much! BlissyB x

Playgroup Leadership - Do You Ever Feel Inadequate For The Role?

I am Playgroup Leader of a small community run Playgroup which has been open since January 2011 and have always felt totally inadequate for the role - so much so that lately I have been thinking of changing jobs. We have 14 children on the role although only 12 attend the 2 1/2 hour session each morning which my Deputy and I run along with one volunteer each day. I think my problem is being constantly undermined by my Deputy ... The royal "we" gets used a lot by her and I feel it is pointedly said to me meaning I have to change my attitude towards particular children, I need to do something to change my tone of voice and how I react to situations, I need to ensure t…
