How Do You Deal With Inappropriate Behaviour?

Have been doing a lot of thinking about this and feel I am coming from it at the wrong angle. Here's a scenario or two and see what you think. We have a farm set out - buildings, fields, loads of animals, tractors, people etc - obviously we would love to see the children line up the animals in groups or put them in fields or sheds etc. Then get the farmer into his tractor and load up some animals on the trailer or even put feeds to spread them out amongst the animals. With me so far? We have one little boy and whilst another child is engaged in this activity and talking away about what she is doing he comes up with the tractor and rams into all the animals or buil…

Hi all, hope you can help me with this one... We operate in a Village Hall which is a community, shared space. Our recent OFSTED report suggested more 'cosy corners' I completely agree but with it having to be quick and easy to set up and easily taken down, we are a little stuck. We also have storage issues so large equipment is not an option. We have small pop up tents but they are not big enough for more than 2 children. Money is limited and I am struggling with simple, quick to assemble ideas. Anybody in a similar situation, or got any ideas?? Any help and advice is gratefully received! Tracey

Ride-ons

We have recently had an extension to our outdoor play area which incorporates part of the existing car park at the lower end. It is quite a distance away from the main door and outside space and we have to erect crowd barriers across the car park to keep the children enclosed within this new area each day. Not a problem as we put them out as part of our normal daily set up. The reason I asked for this extension was for ride-ons - our other area has the mirror activities from inside including a climbing frame/slide and gardening area. At present with the weather we are doing the ride-ons just a day or 2 a week and are hoping as the months progress to do like an hour in…

We have been told that the school where we rent a room is to be inspected this week. Can anyone let me know what we can expect to happen to us? We also run the After School Club but we are independent of the school.

Hi! We are a maintained nursery attached to a primary school. We are fortunate to have a purpose built nursery building, with a large outdoor area accessed via patio doors. This make free flow excellent! However, we go out whatevever the weather, which seems to be an issue for some parents! The outdoor area is playground, grass and garden, so inevitably we get puddles and mud, and if you're 3 or 4 and see a puddle you jump in it ( so do the staff!! ) I am interested to know if other nurseries provide waterproofs, including trousers, or is it reasonable to ask parents to provide their child with waterproofs? We have 'donated' wellies which we share, but this week we …

Dear All, I am having a 10th birthday party for my nursery in June and looking for a children's entertainer to run a magic show, disco, balloon modeling etc. I usually use Mr Marvel but I have left it too late and he is already fully booked. If anyone can recommend a company that would be great. Thanks

I am interested to know if anyone uses an 'all about me' booklet for the babies/one year olds in their care. We have quite a comprehensive booklet for our 2-5 year olds but have recently started taking children in the younger age group. Are there any specific questions we need to be asking? This probably comes across as a silly question but I usually work with the older children and have limited experience with 0-1 year olds. Thanks for any help you can offer as I am a bit confused

Listening Area

Hi all, Wondered if anyone had some nice ideas of how to jazz up a listening area. Currently the area is so small that it is difficult for 2 children to access and find that children are so easily distracted by the other activities within the room that they usually don't stay at the area for very long. All thoughts would be greatly welcomed Regards Genevieve

Wholesale Nappies

Hi, Just wondering if anyone at nursery settings have managed to source nappies in bulk and at wholesale prices? We provide nappies as part of our fees so am always trying to look for ways to keep prices down. At the moment I buy whatever is on offer at Asda but I'm sure there must be a more cost effective alterntive! X
