Hello all, over the weekend I was reading an article in the guardian online which mentioned the possible introduction of a checklist or fact sheet for parents looking at different childcare options. I seem to remember that it would be aired on tuesday so I'm thinking it maybe related to the new EYFS...basically I want to see a copy of it so I can formulate a fact sheet for parents at my setting which addresses all the issues/questions. Any ideas? Help very much appreciated as i'm going round the bend trying to find the article!

Does anyone know where I can get some statistics on the overall number for the number of childcare providers across the country and county by county? Thank you!!

hi there, just wanted to pick your brains...I have a child who has shown an interest in hub caps. I am trying to think of the different ways I could approach this and incorporate the different aspects of learning and development...so far we have taken lots of pictures and he has commented that some are shiny and some aren't. Other thoughts i've had a re the shapes and patterns that can be seen in them (I had no idea that they are so different) and thought about visiting a local garage to buy or obtain a few old hubcaps and see what/how we can use the within the setting....perhaps painting/decorating them and using them like wind ornaments...anyway, my brain is totally wor…

We've got 2 donated cheap folding doll's buggies and several of our children love to sit in them, push their friends around in them (We've got 2 sisters who have English as their 2nd language with a year between them and when little sis pushes big sis in the buggy, they both laugh at me so I know that they know that it would usually be the other way round!) But the flimsiness of these buggies worries me in case someone gets hurt - if the buggies get broken, well that's a shame but they were unrequested hand-me-downs in the first place so throwing them away isn't a problem. Does anyone have recommendations of where to get sturdy durable dolls' buggies that will c…

We have a little girl who turned 2 in july and would like some advice on how we can support her. She has no speech just babbles and also doesn't understand things we say to her even using single words. Also, when we call her name she does not respond at all, even if we are right next to her and say it loudly/quietly. Her mum is also concerned and has taken her to the doctors but they said she is still young and to start her at a pre-school, which is why she came to us. I have spoken with our area senco and her advice was to observe her until christmas and she would contact me after the holidays to discuss the findings. We are just worried this is a bit too long…

What do you all do for Snack Time in a morning - ie; sit together in a circle, free flow snack etc. We have 35 children in most days and need to provide snack and on reflective I just feel that our current set up for snack isn't working and wondered what everyone else did. Thanks Kelly

Hi All our children really enjoy singing and dancing inside and outside. Myself and my other member of staff are not very musical. Has anyone got any ideas how we can develop this further instead of just putting music on and letting them dance. We do singing at the end of the session but again we are not terribly good at singing! Any ideas for indoors and outdoors would be fantastic! We just want to develop it as there is so much they could learn from it. Thanks

This was a little odd and please excuse the long ramble following the precis but I'm really interested in what others think about this... The short version is we've had an unreliable and pretty lazy (sat on chair doing pretty much nothing) volunteer at preschool for 4 out of a possible 9 sessions over the past 5/6 weeks. We have now received a reference request for her from a nursery nursing agency. She didn't ask me first, which to be honest, I thought was rude and I also don't feel able to write her a good one. Thoughts? Am I being unreasonable? The full story... I had an unsolicited request for a job via email that was literally 'Do you have any jobs?' and the wom…

Can you tell I'm doing lots of work today! Another long one sorry! We have an ongoing battle with this and I wondered what others do. We are a school-run pre-school and offer 10 sessions a week of 3 hours each with time within each for lunch as opposed to a lunchclub in the middle. We currently have around 80 children on roll with another 25ish due to start before the end of the school year. We used to have 2 groups - I can't remember the exact pattern but it was something like Group One Mon, Tue, Wed am and Thu, Fri pm and Group Two Mon, Tue, Wed pm and Thu, Fri pm. A few children didn't do those sessions to fit in with parents' working so maybe all mornings. Th…
