In summary, l am having problems with Ofsted and the Fire Officer. The Fire Officer visited my nursery unannounced explaining that there had been concerns with regards to the Fire Safety at the nursery. The concern was that l have a large gate at the rear of the premises which is kept under lock and key. The back garden backs out to a side street. A member of the public is quite concern if there is a fire in the building then we will be unable to escape. I explained that a member of staff always have that key on a chain around her neck and also there are two duplicates which are easily accessible. In the first week of February l had a telephone call from the Fire Offic…

We've got a range of Fisher Price Little People stuff - some people & animals, bits of other stuff, that have been donated or I picked up very cheaply at the car boot sale (got a farm & zoo yesterday). But we don't have lots of animals to go with it & I don't want to buy a new set just to get animals. Does anyone know where you can get just people & animals? (Any tips on how to get a staff member to stop throwing things away just because she doesn't like them also gratefully received! The airport I brought in from my younger son has been thrown away as it 'got dirty in the shed'... I was not a happy bunny!)

Hi We are a packaway setting and have a lovely large kitchen but we have got to sell it as it takes up too much storage space. What kitchens do you have in your settings? We do not want anything that takes up a lot of storage space. Thanks

hello all we have just invested in some story sacks for home learning. We wondered if any of you have them out there that are used at home. They have obviously cost a lot of money and we have spent a lot of taking photos of the contents and copying the guides etc. We were lucky enough to get a grant purely for the purpose of them being used for home school learning. Of course we have our concerns about items not being returned and are taking all possible steps to ensure an easy check list so parents can check before returning the sack. However, we would welcome anyones experiences of running such a scheme and any top tips. Thank you in advance

Annual Inspection

Our local Early Years Team who are responsible for Registering our Playgroup in NI have embarked on a Pilot Thematic Approach to the Annual Inspection Process. We had to attend a meeting on Monday past and were given an 18 page document to complete within one week. There were notes of guidance on how to fill it in and I basically have been working flat out for the past 4 nights at home writing up responses to each section. The Annual Inspection will focus on the Physical Environment and Safeguarding hence the idea of Thematic approach. When the Early Years Team of social workers receive our Self Evaluation Form on Monday they will then assign a specific social worker …

Parents Questionnaire

We have been open a year and are wondering if now would be the time to do a Parents Questionnaire? We have 6 children who started with us between January and June last year and are still with us and will be moving onto Primary School in September this year. We have a very open policy with parents who will tell us as it is and although we have had meetings with them in 2011 where they were given the opportunity to raise any issues of concern but obviously nothing was said. Do you use a Parents Questionnaire? How often do you use this? What areas do you cover in your Questionnaire? Are you specific in questions you ask? Is your Questionnaire anonymous? Final…

Parent /children's Voice On Sef
by Guest- 8 replies

Hi all I just need another nudge in the right direction please. We're really trying to incorporate both the children's and the parents voices in our SEF - all we can come up with is questionnaires for both. But what can I ask the parents that will actually inform the SEF? We ask if they feel we're caring, are they happy with provision, is there anything they'd change, but how is this informing SEF??? For the children we thought we'd send a questionnaire home so they don't feel pressure to tell us the right answer - again what am I asking them? How do you all do it? Thanks
