Update On Playgroup

Thought I would share what has been happening with us this week at Playgroup. As you know I have been posting over the last couple of weeks about different children and problems we have had. Both myself and my deputy have become very stressed and resulted in a few accusations flying most notably from my deputy stating that we were not working together any longer and I was holding back on her. I have taken this very seriously and that coupled with what happened at our Parents meeting last night has caused me to reflect on whether I can continue in the current role as leader - without full confidence in me doing the job I am paid to do by my staff I think shows that ther…

We are moving to a new area within the school soon and are moving from an all tar macked playground to a large grassed area. The area also has the bonus of a willow walk way, a small raised deck area for play and jumping off and a tunnel. The area has huge potential but we do not want to get a company in (can't afford it either) I am thinking along the lines of an area with bark chippings, sand area and an area with gravel and rocks. The area has just been fenced with a picket fence so we are self contained. Would love to hear some of your ideas or see some pictures of your outside areas just to give us inspiration. We are really committed to developing this in a nat…

Just wondering if anyone knows of any really good books/websites for games such as Beans, Captain's coming, Grandmother's footsteps etc but for Nursery aged children. Keep finding loads for KS1/2 but want some simple ones - in a circle and not. Our children have regular hall times and would love to do more of these activities. Thanks!

Settling In Child 1 2

We had a lovely little child start with us on Monday past - seems very sociable, chatty and happy. That was until mum and dad left and she went into hysterics. I mean screaming blue murder, crying and yelling for her mum to come back immediately - which of course we made sure she did! Then mum stayed until the end of the session, next day gran came and stayed with her the whole session and so it has continued all week - a different person every day basically and we know all the family now! Mum came back in on Friday and during snack mum moved just slightly away from the child and there was more hysterics again even though mum was clearly visible. The child has mov…

A Broken Arm - Allowed Or Not?
by Guest terrydoo73- 18 replies

One of our little boys who only comes 3 mornings a week didn't turn up today (the one who is causing us so much hassle with refusing to listen to us and do as we ask!). At the end of the session dad turned up to inform us the child had fallen and broken his arm - could he still come back tomorrow? I said yes we would see how things go and if there was too much work involved we would review it at the end of tomorrows session. My deputy's immediate reaction when I told her was "and how are we going to cope with him, he will need one to one help to do everything, that is just a way of mum and dad getting rid of him for a few hours peace because of the extra work at hom…

Eating Food In Home Corner?
by Guest terrydoo73- 12 replies

We added some dried pasta into our home corner last week and the reaction was amazing. Lots of talking about it, lots of play value and physical movements with it being filled and emptied etc etc. The children really got quite excited by it and encouraged more of them to use this area. However on the second day when a little boy who only comes to us on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday decided to eat the pasta and continued to eat it despite being told not to - the way I did this was to show him that if he continued to eat the pasta what would happen - met by blank stares and another piece put into the mouth. The other children said "there would be none left to play …

Misuse Of Equipment

We have a little boy who insists on using the equipment in the wrong way. For instance the bread board in the home corner becomes a sword/dagger and he acts it out in role play. Then he will pick up the wooden spoons and use them in the same way. We think it has something to do with our home corner but instead of bringing him out of there what could we do? He will also use the food in the area (yes real food such as pasta and small potatoes) as missiles chucking them at anyone - even jumping down to the floor as a way of hiding so we cannot see who is doing it. We have noticed that rather than say laying a table and pretending to make meals using the cooker, frying p…

Fundraising - Cookery Book
by Guest terrydoo73- 4 replies

Our Parents Group has come up with the idea of publishing a cookery book to raise much needed funds for the Playgroup. Has anyone out there ever done this? I do not know the first thing about costs in terms of getting it professionally printed or should we go down the road of in house publishing using say a laser printer? What could we include within it to make it more personal to the Playgroup ie should we include little pictures the children have produced?
