Settling In Every Morning 1 2

We have been open as a playgroup providing 2 1/2 hours every morning for children aged 3 - we are now up to 8 children 3 days a week and 6 2 days a week We have one little boy who we don't know how to handle. Initially he came in with his mum holding tightly onto her leg with one arm every morning. Gradually he loosened the grip and came in without mum. However over the past week we have noticed he has regressed never letting his mum go despite all our persuasion, asking him to help us do something, talking about mum leaving etc all to no avail. Mum does slip away when he lets go of her leg but on realising his mum is gone he starts to "pretend" cry - no tears and v…

This is to update you all on my hunt for a new logo for my pre-school. A big thank you to Steve for his introduction to The Librarian who designed me an absolutely brilliant logo. I've already used it on absolutely everything and everyone on our return this morning loved it. The children have also loved colouring in the black and white one he did for us. Thank you to everyone for your help and advice but a huge amount of praise must go to The Librarian who designed the logo in one day. I can't wait to get a sign made up now. Watch this space!!

Grant Application

We have just received a letter to say there is a grant available for £2,500. It cannot be used to supplement salaries or running costs. We opened our Playgroup in January this year and are registered for 12 children in a 2 1/2 hour session Monday to Friday term time only. We are presently using a community hall so our premises are quite limited. During the past summer the local Community Group who are our employers secured funding to purchase an old school in the village Since opening in January we have raised over £300 from parents fundraisers, £1000 from Children in Need grant, £700 from another 2 local grant agencies and have a grant application pending for …

Jigsaw Puzzle Storage And Display
by Guest terrydoo73- 3 replies

This is something like we have at present: http://www.nesarnold.co.uk/primary-school-...case/?ev=search We have separated the 2 pieces and only use one section. It has a bottom and 2 shelves above - the highest shelf is about a 3 year olds height and is used for jigsaw puzzles and threading. So we basically can only stack jigsaws one on top of the other which is not appealing as you cannot really see what is on there - for instance we are starting with peg puzzles and we would love to set them on their edge but of course all the pegs fall out! We have small 2 and 3 piece puzzles in little see through boxes with a picture on the outside to show how the finished …

We are in the middle of purchasing ride-ons and just wondered what everyone else would recommend. I have gone for trikes with pedals such as the Weplay trike and taxi trike that holds 2 people. I just wondered would it be wise to go for a child's bike with stabilisers?

We are a small playgroup catering for 12 children operating term time only so due back this week although the children do not come back until next Monday. We have 7 returning as they are just now in their pre-school year and 1 who has just moved into the area making a total of 8. We are still trying to work out another 7 children who have just turned 3 years of age - 2 are definately full time while the rest are a combination of 2 to 4 days a week. All very complicated!! Anyway what I am looking for is advice. We only opened in January this year and of course have not been in the position of working with pre-schoolers so are wondering how to handle it. Part of me…

Hi everyone, I've been trying to place my first topic. Hope I'm doing it right. My pre-school is tucked away behind a church in a hall situated behind a very high hedge so cannot be seen from the main road. Lots of local people don't know we exist. The pre-school has been operating for over 30 years. My problem is advertising. We have advertised in local magazine etc. and recently had a fantastic review on an on-line local magazine. The church have given me permission to get a large sign which we can place behind the hedge so that people passing know we are here. We recently increased our opening hours to include afternoons and have always filled places by wor…

Hurrah! We Have Free Flow!
by Guest- 13 replies

I just wanted to share my excitement with everyone. Today our barriers arrived and we can finally have genuine free flow between inside and out. So, from the first mention of building a garden in February, to the garden being completed in May, to us getting free access to it in June, it's been quite a busy but a very fun 5 months. The barriers are perfect, light enough to be moved by one person. The gap is not escapable under, and we are planning to personalise them with paints, etc.

Hello everyone, just wondered if anybody had ever used a talking area in their Pre-School setting. The idea that I had was that it would be a small area with cushions and pictures of their local area. With only 3 or 4 children allowed in to the area at one time. I hope this will encourage the children to engage in conversation with their peers. It would be a child only area to begin with and maybe if its not working have an adult in there with them. Just wondered what everybody thought and if anyone had something like this in their setting. Any opinions welcome. Mike
