Hello all, did I imagine reading somewhere in the EYFS that you need to allocate a 'buddy' to a child if their key person is for example always off on the same day. I have looked and I cannot see it, any ideas would be greatly appreciated Chicken

Hello I'd be really interested to know anyone's experience of successful activities that have helped to engage children in aspects of problem solving, reasoning and numeracy. In particular, I'm looking for ideas of hands-on activities related to numbers, shapes, measuring and sums (the latter involving various types of calculation – addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, estimation etc). Activities that involve some type of physical or creative element would be ideal! Keen to bring some fun into mathematical learning, and to encourage children to explore for themselves. Any ideas gratefully received. Thanks for your help!

Hi folks in middle of writing a presentation for local network meeting- trying to find a quote that I used a while ago from the EYFS relating to the importance of skilled, motivated adults. I am sure it is in the document somewhere but have left mine at school and can't seem to find it on the national strategy website. Anyone any ideas? thanks Apple

As I'm sure you're all aware, the above publication is no longer in print, and virtually impossible to get hold of! I have recently found lurking in the back of a cupboard the first editions of the publications. Can anybody tell me what the amendments were for the May 2008 edition? I encourage staff to use the Practice Guidance to support them in planning and observing their key children (namely the development matters statements alongside "look, listen note" etc....) I'm hoping these old editions will still be suitable for this purpose...or should I scrap them?! Thanks in advance all you experts Melanie

Hi all - Just to let you know that the promised EYFS consultation has been launched and you can find it here. We've linked to it on the front page and I imagine many of you will want to discuss it further, so this is a suggested gathering point for conversation.

What are your views on children choosing their own key person? By this, I mean the nursery setting not deciding randomly which children are assigned to which members of staff, but allowing the children over time to gravitate to an adult they feel most comfortable with, and then making that practitioner their key person. I'd welcome your opinions.
