When new parents start at our setting I would like to give them something about the EYfs that relates to us them and their child. BUT not sure what. Is that a wacky idea? I have seen the EYFS for parents leaflets but they do not appeal. I just thought I would ask if you what you all do that gives and receives information to and from parents. Thank you xx

Todays news from CYPN tells of shadow education Ministers plans to end the EYFS should the Conservatives come into power. HERE If this should happen, What will you think? 1/ I'll still carry on as I am anyway 2/ Heave a sigh of relief 3/ Think, Oh no, what next? 4/ Bring back Letterland or something else? Answers on a postcard to The Conservatives, address unknown but maybe soon at No 10 Downing Street. Peggy

We are a nursery school that educates three and four year olds. They all turn five in their subsequent primary school so we never have to provide an EYFS assessment using the scale points. Because we have been going for 20 years, we have well established ways of planning for children's development and recording childrens achievements using individual child profiles. With the advent of the EYFS, we have adjusted the way this information is presented broadly to conform with the six areas of learning. We believe (subject to the continuous improvement principle) that the way we record, and what we record, gives an accurate evaluation at any one moment of the child's current s…

Why is it I always feel so far behind? Ofsted News has arrived in my inbox today, with news that the registration fees are going up or rather have gone up from 1st September 2009. I'm sure someone must have told me this before, but it stilll seemed a shock. £200 for childcare providers on non-domestic premises for more than three hours a day, five days a week, £30 for childminders and £30 for childcare providers on non-domestic premises for three or more hours a day but less than five days a week and less than 45 weeks per year. Here's the weblink. Maz

Learning Objectives

I was wondering if someone can clear up some confusion for me. I have just started a new school and have been told they are using the FSPs to plan from. I am horrified especially as an advisor has told them this is what should be done. Is there anywhere that actually says to do this or not that I can show the FS Leader. I though we should be planning with Development Matters in mind. I am worried a s we may have the dreaded 'O' visit soon and I am sure they will not think much of this. Have I missed something somewhere? How is everyone else planning their objectives?

The last time we tipped our whole record-keeping database upside down was last summer when we adopted the six areas of learning, their aspects (sub-headings) and the assessment scales from the EYFS Statutory Framework - May 2008 document. Since then we have paid attention to the EYFS Profile Handbook 2008 which, although it alters the wording of the assessment scales, nevertheless conforms to their meaning. Now, looking at the National Strategies, I see that the six areas of learning have been split into even more aspects. For example, the Statutory Framework has no aspects for KUW whereas the National Strategies has six. I can't see additional assessment scales to match …
