I am just about to start the EYFS training with my staff and realised that i could probably encompass the accreditation we have just started and the Self Evaluation Toolkit at the same time, considering it is all in the same vein. Problem is the S E Toolkit is catorgorised by Every Child Matters, Accreditation by National Standards and obviously EYFS by the four areas. Does anyone know whether these things have been linked anywhere, so we could deal with similar sections of each document at the same time?

Number Songs/rhymes

Hello Does anyone know any good songs/rhymes for pre-school children about 'big numbers'. I know a popular one is 'Hundreds and thousands' [hymn by John Gowans] but I wondered if there were any (secular) examples as well, to include children of other faiths. I'm particularly looking for songs/rhymes that include the concept of hundreds, thousands, millions etc Thanks for your help.

Does anyone use the Tracker Plus booklets? I have just ordered some and am not sure sure how to use them. I was told how easy the tracker books are to record children's development. Unfortunately, l believe that these booklets are now replaced by the Tracker Plus ones, which l have now ordered. Staff-members who have used the previous ones at other settings found the tracker plus ones very confusing. l am also not too sure.

Having read most of the EYFS now, it's still pretty clear that we are not supposed to be using the development matters as a ticklist/tracking aid. How is everyone else going to get round this? Ofsted need proof that children are progressing through the stages, so if we don't have a ticklist-type thing based on the stages, how do we give them proof? I am forever going round in circles on this one!

Got this info today from cypnow. HERE The school has been granted exemptions from all communication, literacy and language targets, and any goals related to the use of ICT. I think this is really positive as it shows that principles can be fought for and acknowledged. What do you think? Peggy

Hi, I've just finished my NQT year and I'm in the process of changing my schools current long and medium term planning. For my long term planning I have continuous provision sheets and a page which has all the seasonal and cultural events I want to cover with possible topics. I thought I would scrap having a plan that shows which ELGs and development matters statements we will cover in which terms because if we are supposed to be planning to individual children surely we can't know which objectives we will cover when? For my medium term plans I thought I would include possible adult led activities, ask the children what they want to learn and record it and then fill i…

I have a new TA joining me in September in Reception who has no formal qualifications. I have voiced my concerns to the Head but wondered if anyone knew the legal side? We are expecting OFSTED this year and I am worried that this could have a bad impression to start with!! Thanks in advance.
