Hello all! Our Pre-school has a parents evening next Wednesday in which we are intending to explain in the simplest terms the EYFS implementations and what it means to the parents. I am trying to put together a small slideshow, but initially I am seeking help with the content that really should be included.....I have already done a display for parents focused on the EYFS including examples of how different activities apply to each area of the EYFS through photos of the children.... Any words of wisdom out there??!! Jellytots

Hi everyone, as i continue with my project, more questions are arising! So two more questions to you all..... Would you say that nearly a year on, the EYFS has only had positive outcomes on your practice or has there been disadvantages or negative issues? And finally, what do you consider to be the main indications of a quality setting?? Thanks in advance Nicolah

Hi everyone, this is my first post, but i have to say that i have really enjoyed reading all comments posted on the forum. Some things have made me evalute my practice as a result. The question is part of the dissertation i am currently struggling through. Do you think that the implementation of the EYFS has raised the quality of your settings? If yes, please say why. I look forward to your replies as i know there are some strong feelings out there! thanks

Hi all! Just wondered if anyone could give me any advice at all on this! I have recntly moved positons, used to work in educational nursery and have moved to Day Care. i must say it has been a fantastic move for me and for the moment I couldnt be happier. My main problem at the moment is planning, I have been used to planning for an educational setting with a fixed number of children on a daily basis, a lot of structure was in place and the nursery was run along side the school day. I have recently moved to a day care setting where numbers change considerably day to day, the age range of the children is wider and although there is structure to the day it is far more rel…

I have just been reading SmileyPR's topic on trackers and I began to wonder about the format of development matters. I thought it better not to hijack that topic but to start a new one: Am I alone in thinking that the whole Development Matters document would be better without age ranges. I would feel more comfortable with using it if I could just show the child progressing through numbered stages (or perhaps a,b,c,...). Children will progress at different rates in different areas and it is very hard not to compare their progress against their age. It feels very much like we/they have been set targets. I also feel that parents sometimes focus on whether the child …

Full And Relevant Qualifications

Hello, Could someone please clarify for me the timeframe for the CWDC "Full and Relevant Qualification" My understanding is that from 2015 full day settings must be led by a graduate - hence the need to gain a foundation degree or similar - do you then also have to have EYPS to lead a setting ? Also, do all early years staff have to have a relevant qualification by September 2009 ? And can they have enrolled on a relevant course so be working towards ? I've looked at the CWDC site but it was not clear about the timeframe.....(or I wasn't able to get it!) It's the timeframe I'm especially interested in. Thanks in anticipation ! Sam

Hi all, Am I right in thinking that there is a leaflet explaining the EYFS for parents that can be ordered/downloaded? Please could someone point me in the right direction? Or is there one on here somewhere which could give me a starting point for making my own? Thanks Green Hippo xx

Hi - don't know whether this is a silly question!! Does anyone have a list of items which are statutory in a first aid kit for an Early Years setting? I've recently renewed first aid cert and we were told there were 7 things which are 1. Triangular bandage 2. Sterile dressings 3. Plasters 4. Pins 5. Alcohol-free medi-wipes 6. Disposable gloves and that's only 6!! Either they missed one or got the number wrong!! I am having to re-stock our first aid kits currently and wondered if any one could give me some guidance on what we MUST have but, also, what you all would recommend/ have found useful!! Many thanks.
