Has anybody got a planning format which appears to be working? I'm finding it difficult to come up with something that is easy to use and will motivate the staff!!

Help Re Eyfs Principles!

When all the training for the EYFS was going on in my area, I was on maternity leave so have not had any official training as such. Whilst on mat leave, I applied for a job as a foundation stage manager within a school and got the job! I was very surprised to say the least! Now, I understand how the 'guidance' works - (i think!) but am not really sure about the principles of 'A unique child, positive relationships, enabling environments and learning and development. What am i supposed to actually 'do' with them? Looking at them, I think it is something that we just do already but am I supposed to have it written down somewhere? Im panicking big time because my h…

Do You Think This Is Feasible

We have quite a few childminders who bring children to our nursery and I know that some of them are feeling a lot of pressure with the EYFS. I was thinking that as we produce the learning journeys for our children would it be necessary for the childminders to also produce them for the same children or could we all just contribute to one. I was thinking that this could forge great links with the childminders and would also take some of the pressure off them as far as paperwork is concerned. Also what do you think Ofsted would make of it I am sure that our nursery would look good as there is evidence of sharing information but I am not sure whether it would be accep…

Qts Status In Nursery Schools
by Guest- 3 replies

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me please, I am currently in charge of an Early Years Unit which is part of a school, I am the Reception teacher and the Nursery is run by an HLTA Nursery Manager. We have been told that from Sept 2009 we must have a qualified teacher in the Nursery this will lead to the Nursery Manager being made redundant, despite wanting to obtain her QTS status and obtaining "Good" in the Feb inspection and "Good with outstanding " from LEA there seems to be little hope. Does anyone know of any authority not abiding by the EYSF or is anyone else in the same situation or can anyone out there help at all with advice. I would be really grateful …

Morton Michel Insurance organised a debate between the Editor of their ChildCarer e-newsletter, Ruth Pimentel (National Director, EYFS) and Wendy Scott (Early Years Consultant) It covers the thinking and controversies behind EYFS, what's good and bad about it, the impact on practitioners and more! You can find it here: http://www.mortonmichel.com/EYFS%20Discuss...ign=EYFS_Debate Interesting stuff! Nona

Working With Other Settings

There's a bit about this that worries me. Now I'm happy to work with anyone in the child's interest, but in market town that has 3 day nurseries and 3 preschools, it's ineveitable that some children attend several settings. How far can we reasonably be expected to go, especially when one provider is physically very close to us and definitely sees us as competition. It worries me a bit because of how EYFS is worded and the lengths to which we seem to be expected to go. Is anyone else concerned about it?

Hi, I am new to the forum this week and have been reading loads of your wonderful comments and ideas and figured who better to take a look at what i am doing to see if i am doing it right! I am an NQT and new to Nursery and i havent had any formal EYFS training so i am kind of planning with a blind fold on for i have no idea how i am supposed to be laying it out! Would someone please have a look at it for me and tell me what they think? We are attached to a school and are 26 place. We are doing the flexible entitlement so have the children for 3 hours each session. We do not have free flow access to the outdoor area. We have to do 3 a day texts and i try …

I attended training delivered by celiae ebrahimi in essex yesterday. I just thought I would let you all know it was fantasic if you ever get the chance to attend any training days delivered by this lady do. I find it quite rare to actually meet a trainer who is so knowledgeable and informative on the early years. Who inspires and knows what they are talking about. As an EY specialist myself I often find that the person delivering the training has there own tunnel vision view and little understanding of ey education and how we support development within our different environments so it was so refreshing to meet and listen to someone who actually knew what they were talking…

Planning And Childminders
by Guest- 4 replies

Can I ask for ideas and suggestions please. Under EYFS I know all providers need to be working together and just wondered if anyone yet had looked at the following issue If you are a setting and have childminders picking up children how do you liaise with them about your observations of the children what they have been doing in your setting so they can build on this learning when the child is with them. And also the other way round - is there a system that you use so you can build on learning/activities the child has done with the chidminder. Hope you understand what I mean. Thanks
