Ive been reading and listening a lot recently about what people are saying about feeling deflated, fed up, confused, angry, low, miserable etc about the EYFS or the management of, and it got me thinking today. I think we, in early eyars, because of our passion for what we do, are very good at beating ourselves with a big stick, and sometimes we need to just take a step back and look at what we do achieve. SO I thought it would be good to celebrate together what we are doing well, what changes we might have made that are for the better. It doesnt mater how small, but just think, what has gone well for you in the past few weeks, and tell us about it. Go on, don…

Hi there - before I ask for some advice, I would just like to say how much I appreciate this forum and the wealth of advice and resources it offers - thank you very much! I work as a TA in a shared YR1/Reception class and am a little confused about the practice in the Reception class. They are mostly following EYFS practice but are joining year 1 for discrete lessons in Art, Music, ICT & PE (with the exception of PE, this is all bums on seats, national curriculum stuff) I thought that Reception now had their own curriculum and that teaching subjects in a discrete format was not exactly what the principles of the EYFS is about? I know the obvious thing is to ask t…

Just read the October newsletter and trying to find the information about EYFS for parents which it says is in the ECM website. I want to see the information they have provided that informs parents - can anyone do me a link. Also can I ask if any settings have accessed an information leaflet from anywhere else. I have been informed that a setting in London has been highlighted because they have not sent out ant info to parents. Just wondered what extent others have gone to. Thanks

Help! I have been teaching in a reception class for a few years now and loved the FS booklets. Yes they took a long time but I took great pride in giving parents not only lots of detailed information about their progress but also a really personal report relevent to each child and a keepsake for the parents. My question is: Are they stiill available as a hard copy for me to add photos, childrens pics and my information? I can only seem to find 2007/2008? I know they are baing phased out in 2009 but I just wanted one more year before I use the e profile only! If not then I guess I will create my own version! Ta.

Homework In Early Years
by Guest- 28 replies

I have been an Early Years Teacher for 13 years. I have EYPS. My son started a Reception Class (not where I work) in September and I was really happy with the school, but a couple of things have been niggling me. They have a lovely conservatory built outside each classroom, set up with builders trays, easels etc.. (3 Reception Classes) but my son tells me they are never allowed to play there. Secondly, he is give phonic homework 3 times a week and today scrawled across it in blue pen was the words 'very disappointing work, colour neatly please'. I'm completely gobsmacked. Am I right to be upset, or is it me who's missing the point here. Surely the fact that he is …
