I am trying to build a complete list of what everyone incorporates and understands with the different planning in their setting. If you have time could you just briefly explain what you and the staff in your setting understand / use and include in 1 Short Term Planning 2 Medium Term Planning 3 Long Term Planning I have read through the new EYFS and the categories are quite loose and flexible.

Since the EYFS officially comes to life tomorrow morning, I've been pondering how its all going to go and whether life will be very different from here on in. I realise this might be the shortest thread in the history of the Forum, but I wondered what positive thoughts you can offer on the advent of the EYFS and what your hopes might be. Personally, I'm hoping that I can remember that four principles underpin the EYFS and that the "development matters" statements are one commitment of one of the principles. I will try to remember what Margy Whalley said: that the best care and education for our children will be provided when we concentrate on all four principles eq…

is planning for the 2-3 year olds as in depth as planning for 3-5 years. Can you tell me what if anything you do differently please. We free flow 2-5 years, and our planning is very complex and not sure it has to be, someone said today do we have to plan for the 2-3 year olds like we do 3-5 and it got me thinking are we doing too much? Can you share with me what you do please thanks

Hello All, I am new to this site after reading lots of helpful messages just from doing Google searches and then being blocked on certain pages. I am hoping someone may be able to offer me some words of wisdom after days of searching the internet and becomming more and more confused, zones, units, principles, arghh!! I just don't know where to start with my planning and time is ticking on. I think if i had a format it might start me off. Any help much appreciated.

This may seem like a strange request but in developing our new Scrapbook style records in readiness for Sept. my colleague and I are designing headed sheets on which we will stick photos ,observations and children's work. We are desperately trying to think of another way to phrase "children's work" we firmly believe in learning through play. Our worry is when we say children's work that sometimes parents and occaisionly a staff member have unrealistic expectations and do not value the wonderful creations that children produce. Not sure I am making any sense but does anyone else feel the same and can anyone think of a different way of phrasing "children's work" Thanks …

LIKE SO MANY OF YOU I FEEL THAT THIS ALL SEEMS TO BE LINKED TO 'SETTINGS' AND I JUST DON'T GET THE FEELING FOR IT IN A RECEPTION CLASS. AT THE MOMENT I CHOOSE A TOPIC BASED ON THINGS THAT CHILDREN ARE INTERSTED IN AND CAN BECOME MORE INTERSTED IN. WE THEN TALK ABOUT WHAT WE KNOW AND WHAT WE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW AND TAKE IT FROM THERE. I DO MINMUM PLANNING OFTEN HAVING A TITLE AND THEN FILLING IN BOXES AS WE COME ACROSS THEM. WITH CLL AND MATHS I DO TEND TO HAVE A PLAN OF WHAT I WANT TO COVER EACH HALF TERM! BUT CAN BE FLEXIBLE E.G LAST YEAR THE CHILDREN REALLY GOT INTO THE ELVES AND THE SHOEMAKER AND SO WE SPENT LONGER ON DIFFERNT SORTS OF DATA HANDLING. SOMETIME, MYBE I AM…
