Key Person

I love the idea of a 'key person' that has now been introduced into the EYFS and having visited a number of pre-school settings to visit my new 'brood' for September, it seems to work well. However I would be interested to know what people's thoughts for how this works in schools. I have a class of approx. 27 4 year olds in my class in September and as my Head has discovered that the ratio is 1:30 she hasn't worked out TA support for me yet!! My current TA works 4 days a week, although hasn't been with me totally for those 4 days last year and I get the feeling she will be used more around the school next year. I also have a level 2 student for 3 mornings a week and a lev…

hi everyone having spent some time developing our plans, observations, learning jourenys for use with the eyfs and using these for the past few months i have no been told by our training coordinator that parts will have to be changed. we stick snapshot observations into the childs learning journey along with any photos or "work", and each observation is given a reference eg p001, p002 and so on in order. we then use the development matters sheets at the back of the learning journey, we place the date and the reference number next to which development matter we think that observation covers. i think this is a great way to see what each child can do and se…

Currently we are using the providers record of complaints which i have attached, but have just realised that it refers to the National Day Care Standards 1-14. I am assuming i have to change this to tthe new categories, but which ones?? Will it be the five areas of Every Child Matters or the five areas of the welfare requirements? If anyone can point me in the right direction i would really appreciate it Many Thanks new_complaints_form.xls

Breakfast Club
by Guest- 8 replies

Hi there Our school currently runs a breakfast club for R-Yr 6 children from 8 - 8.50 am. There is some confusion depending on who you talk to about whether they will need staffing ratios/ qualifications as stated in EYFS as they have Reception aged children attending... Any words of wisdom out there?! also the after school club, run independently of the school but catering for our children, takes the same aged children as breakfast club... do they fall into the same situation. Funding additional adults with qualifications is not an option at the moment. When nursery starts the flexible hours we may offer breakfast club but could this be as part of the main club or d…

Help With Numeracy.....please!

Hi, Ive looked through lots of earlier topics and replies, but have not been able to find what I'm looking for, doesn't mean it isn't there, just I'm not finding anything! I teach in a Foundation unit of 3 to 5 year olds. It seems there are lots of plans, ideas, etc for sounds and phonics, and it seems we all pretty much follow the same route with the letters and sounds and jolly phonics. But numeracy seems to be a completely different thing. There doesn't seem to be any kind of set plans for numeracy at all. I realize we all do it dirrerently, but mine is often a little erm, how can I put it, not as planned as phonics! I have a variety of numeracy books, but …

Hi all! I have recently come back from maternity leave and just beginning to prepare for EYFS framework. I will be working in pre-school and wondered if you follow any scheme for music, phonics and numeracy? I am aware and will be planning for the children interests but just wanted to be sure we are covering every area as we plan. Just wondered what your thoughts and experiences of these were- thanks

Open Eye Campaign

Just came across a few updates to the site and interesting links from the last week or so if you haven't seen them. http://openeyecampaign.wordpress.com/ There was also an article in the guardian on Friday: http://www.guardian.co.uk/education/2008/j...ears.monitoring I have to say I thought that the campaign might have lost a little impetus after being going for 8 months so good to see they are still going strong and making themselves heard.

Hi all, Just wondered how other early years settings finish for the end of term, for the summer (if we get one). Do you have leavers parties - if so what do you do. Do all the staff in your setting go out to celebrate the end of term too!- If so what do you do ! Look forward to your replies O40
