Hi i have enjoyed reading and reflecting on the post regarding following children's interests and can see the benifits. I would like to use this way of planning for children in Sept but am puzzled to see how i can continually provide for every childs interests when they are different, in on different days and vary in sessions. How do I physically do this. where do i start and how do i show ofsted of this. Is it all retrospective plannimg?. At the moment I plan for one area of learing each week ie psed 1 to ensure coverage. This is planned around a theme and key workers deliver this activity at the child's level. then we all observe all the time and collate these observati…

Hi All I have been asked to deliver some training on EYFS. I thought about sending out a questionnaire as a starting point. I would be interested to hear the sort of questions people might find useful on a questionnaire. Thanks

Went today for the EYFS observation, planning and assessment training today and must say it was very uplifting and reassuring. All the planning was explained and inline with what we are doing at my setting. Long Term planning was explained, and doing it month on month to ensure balance and breadth is ok. As long as you can show your planning is from observations, next steps are planned for, there is a balance between adult led and child initiated (they did say that the more child initiated the better) and parents were informed and involed then everything will be ok.

Can anyone answer my question? With the introduction of the EYFS are settings going to be inspected against the 5 ECM outcomes or against the four themes in the EYFS? The current inspections are against the ECM outcomes - are they likely to change?

Hi all, I am really worried about the implementation of the new EYFS in SEP 2008. I work in s a school where the learning is very formal, and always feel stuck in between a rock and a hard place. The early years team have been in school ( during moderation) and said that school is not operating in accordance with early years principles but the head teacher is upper key stage two trained and feels stronghly that the way the childrern are taught here is successful and is important for the children to continue their good attainemnt towards KS1 SATs. The children get two afternoons a week where they get to do child centred/ play orienmtated learning around a topic e.g …

Links With Other Providers

Hello, my first post on here and I wondered how others are going to or already managing links with other providers? My nursery setting is part of a primary school and some of our children attend other nurseries at the same time as ours. They might do one or two sessions at the nursery they've attended since the age of two for example and keep this up once they get to three and start at ours. I can see the benefits of sharing information about the child's interests etc. but wonder how to go about it. Shouldn't parents have to give permission? I find this site really useful and enjoy reading the posts. JP

Hi there, I have a new treasurer. I won't go into details, but can anone tell me; what is the ratio for 20 children aged 3+ in a pre-school? How many level 3 staff would we require? I feel a right berk asking, but he has interpreted the EYFS guidance differently to my interpretation! Thank you in advance (I really feel like I'm going round the twist)!
