Eyfs Planning For Sept

Hi Everyone, I have finally updated all of our planning for September 08. Part of me would like to make the switch to EYFS when pre school returns on Monday. However as I have only been the leader for 1 year this should of thrown up an inspection (still waiting) so am reluctant to start in case they inspect us within the next 7 weeks. We currently have a planning meeting every week, so at our last planning meeting for the summer term will it be ok to just plan for continuous provision and say three learning intentions to do with PSED ie settling back in, settings boundaries and routines etc, then take say two long obs each and observed interests during that week, …

Hi there I found this website after googling for 'eyfs'. I'm not a practioner - I'm actually a professional web developer however my wife works at the local pre-school and is currently studying towards her NVQ level 3 in early years. I've spoken with her about her job and what the other members of staff have to do and it appears to me that a fair amount of time is taken up in planning to meet the current curriculum and there seems to be a fair bit of change coming with EYFS in september. I've done some reading of the official EYFS curriculum and tbh, it left me a little confused I'm looking to develop a website to help my wife and the rest of the staf…

Eyfs Curriculum Overview Sheet

I have put together a curriculum overiview sheet, basically its where we log all the dates of our observations for all children. Then at planning we are able to see how balanced the curriculum is and what children are not being observed as often as others. Have attached it in case any one else would like to use it, the space a the top of each column is for the childs first name, there is space against each statement to put date of ob, when an area has been observed consistantly we will highlight it as being achieved by the child. All our observation will be logged on this sheet at the end of every day, where we have a fifteen minute review. Feel free to let me…

Dear Ms Berridge, Thank you for your e-mail. From September 2008 a childcare provider must register on the Early Years Register if they care for children aged from birth to the 31 August following their fifth birthday, unless they are exempt from registration[1]. All those on the Early Years Register must deliver the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Ofsted will inspect providers against the requirements and guidance for the EYFS. Under the our inspection arrangements for the Early Years Foundation Stage, childcare providers will be able to complete a Self-evaluation Form (SEF) to assess their practice which will form a part of the evidence that…

I am just looking at planning for next term, I have not planned for EYFS before and have a couple of questions... Are you still going to use a topic based approach, I understand that not everyone does , but I enjoy themeing our actvities around a central topic and having themed areas. Is there a way I can copy the development matters statements into a word document and save them so I can cut and past them into my planning? The ones on the disk are in pdf format and dont allow it? any advice would be appreciated Thanks Julie

Is anyone else having problems finding a parent volunteer to be Chair from September 2008? The legal implications of the EYFS statutory framework (especially the welfare requirements), together with the already demanding responsibilities of being Chair, are stopping parents from being willing to volunteer their time for this position. We're a PLA-parent-led Preschool and without a Chair, we have to close. Is it right that Mums should be asked to take on such a responsibility? - isn't this whole PLA model outdated by the EYFS? These are the questions we are struggling with right now.

Has anyone seen the Anti-EYFS petition article in Nursery World or Early Years Educator Magazine? I hadn't heard of it before and then read two different articles about it in the same week! I just wanted to bring it to everyones attention. It may spark an interesting thread!? Just wondered what other people make of it. I don't know how to make a link to the site, the address is: http://openeyecampaign.wordpress.com/
