EYFS Statutory Framework

Dear All, I am trying to understand the new EYFS. I find that there are a lot of similar points between the "Making Relationships" and "Manage Feelings and Behaviour". Surely enough that if one manages these appropriately, one makes better relationships... so they are quite interrelated. Yet, I find that some of the d.m. and goals in these two aspects are too similar , repetitive in a way. For example, 40-60+ MR: "Takes steps to resolve conflicts with other children, e.g. finding a compromise" and the same in MF&B "Beginning to be able to negotiate and solve problems without aggression..." Then, in these two same aspects but in the ELG... MR: "Th…

Hi, my name is Tania French and I work in a Primary school in Hampshire. I am in my last year of a BA (Hons) degree in Education and Training at Southampton University. I am doing a comparative study on the 2008 EYFS framework and the new 2012 EYFS framework. Obviously as the 2012 framework was only implemented in September I will be looking at a snapshot of EYFS users and their opinions. I have provided a link below to my questionnaire and it is completely confidential. I would be extremely grateful for all your professional opinions and hope all you lovely people will provide me with enough data to analyse. This is the link required, if you have any trouble acces…

Hi All, I've been on the 'Implementation of the EYFS revised framework for childminders' training course today and we were shown a 'Progress Wheel' to use instead of highlighting the DM and our trainer told us we could find a 'progress wheel' on this site! Can anyone please point me towards it, I've tried searching and searching and searced a little bit more but maybe i'm missing something but I cannot find one anywhere!! Thank you in advance! Sam x

If this has been asked before (which it probably has) I do apologise but I've been going around in circles on the forum trying to find it! I'm so confused with this new EYFS. I start my new job on Monday and I've been out of the loop for over a year so I haven't even hard much of the hype about the new EYFS. I've downloaded everything I could find and I've ordered a hard copy of the Development Matters document but I was wondering if someone could shed a little light for me... I'm sorry if I sound really dense but is the new EYFS basically just an updated statutory framework document and the Development Matters a new version of the old Practice Guidance? Do we no…

Has anybody spent any time looking at the benchmarking tool, available from the DfE here I hadn't come across it before attending a conference recently and an interesting point was raised regarding the percentage of PVI settings achieving a good/outstanding Ofsted and the percentage of children reaching a good level of development at the end of the reception year. For example, 72% of settings in East Sussex received good/outstanding and 52% of children achieved a good level of development (EYFS profile) In Windsor and Maidenhead, the figures were 77% and 65% respectively. In Brighton and Hove, they were 86% and 64%. In Darlington, they were 56% and 54%. There …

This may seem a silly question but was wondering how we use the development matters sheets? It is my understanding that each member of staff has their own copy to refer to not each folder has a copy to be highlighted! I'm confusing myself but need to have it clear in my head for staff meeting....any help please

Ratios

I think I know the answer to this one, but I am willing and happy to be corrected! I work in a nursery which is part of a primary school. As far as I'm aware, the teacher can work to the ratio for 1:13 As a level 3 (I actually have BA Hons) I can work to the ratio 1:8 so if there are only us two in the room, is it right that we can only have 21 children? Can anyone point me in an official direction to check? TIA

For the previous framework, there was a paper titled "Specific legal requirements under the EYFS". Is there such a thing for the new framework, please? If so, please may I have a link? TVM

Is it me being really silly, should it say "keep trying" as opposed to "keeping trying", just doesn't sit right with me. Any thoughts.
