Hi We are base lining a new child who has been assessed by a pediatrician as having autistic tendencies. This child is also under SAL for speech. My deputy and I (there are only 2 of us and we are disagreeing!) would like your opinions. This child is 43 months old and quite happy to talk to parents (4-5 words) and some of the things they understand and the odd word we do (he uses different consonants to start words). Would you say that he is already doing this Beginning to put two words together (e.g. ‘want ball’, ‘more juice’).(16-26m) or not given that the words are not clear? I read something recently which made me question my understanding of the statement: "Constructs with a purpose in mind, using a variety of resources. My understanding: to have an intention about what they want to construct before they construct it, using suitable equipment to do so. E.g. I want to make a boat, choosing crates etc outside... as opposed to deciding what it is while or after building Other understanding: to make something that has a purpose e.g. a bag to use for shopping on the role-play area or I want to make a den that keeps us dry? Have I not been looking deeply enough for this statement? Thanks Green Hippo x

Hi Just thinking about the difference in these statements Uses talk to organise, sequence and clarify thinking, ideas, feelings and events.(40-60) and Uses talk to connect ideas, explain what is happening and anticipate what might happen next, recall and relive past experiences.(30-50) If anyone can help clarify what you would be looking for ? Thanks for your help

Hi, What would you be looking for, for this statement? We had 2 girls - one was being a vampire and one was being a witch in our Witches Den and at times they were playing together not just alongside? Green Hippo x

Hi all, Having a scrambled brain moment while updating my observations. Where do you put writing numbers? Looking at the maths statements there isn't really anything that talks about being able to write numbers. In PD there is letter formation but not number formation. One child wrote 0-20 in the correct order so that would be part of the ELG but another child wrote numbers in a random order but was able to tell me the numbers. So do I focus on the the number aspect rather than the writing and formation? Thanks

Hi, What do you expect/teach for: Knows some of the things that make them unique, and can talk about some of the similarities and differences in relation to friends or family? I tend to focus more on the physical differences but also preferences, interests and different living situations e.g. people in family/houses. What do you think? Thanks, Green Hippo x

Could anyone tell me what they are observing for the following statement please Learns that they have similarities and differences that connect them to, and distinguish them from others I don't think we have a very observant bunch this year, unless we are expecting too much!
