Mathematics - Help please

Hi I'm hoping someone could offer some clarification on the development matters; mathematics - numbers, 30-50 'seperates a group of three or four objects in different ways, beginning to recognise that the toal is still the same', as this is a pre-counting skill. A simple example or activity idea would hopefully clarify this for me.I'm trying to support less experienced members of my team and just struggling with this one. Thanks!

Hi all, Just wondered if anyone had any words of wisdom... I am in a 1 form entry school and have been asked to consider why the PSED scores are lower than other areas of learning in the EYFSP. The children tend to leave reception with better than average reading, writing and maths but their PSED scores bring down their overall GLD. I do circle times, stories (sometimes with puppets) and talk discreetly about how to be a good friend. Also praise good PSED within class time. I am thinking it is probably just the children in those specific years that haven't quite made the ELG but wondered if there was anything else I could do to raise the scores in this area?? …

Hello Does anyone have any tried and tested ideas for following instructions - preferably pictorial/written? Last week one of the children helped to put together a new stool. He enjoyed looking at the instructions and using the tools and was able to do this with a little support; I would like to develop this - I had thought about the cards which you can use with Popoids - but when I looked it was not really what I wanted. Any thoughts?

We have a few children in our setting at the moment who can tell you the letters in their names (the sounds). Some can then go onto attempt to write some of these letters, some making marks. My TA has put a couple of observations on and ticked 'beginning to hear initial sounds in words' but I'm not so sure this has been demonstrated with what the observations shows about the name writing. I think these children have learnt the letters in their name. What do you think this should come under? I would be more tempted to put them in 30-50 reading and writing as they have an awareness of print having a meaning and saying something consistently? Any thoughts? Thanks

"Rockets blast off into outer space ... we can see the moon in the day time ... but not in space because of summer bedtime." (41m) I would really appreciate any comments with regard to DM statements within the 'Speaking' aspect. Uses talk to organise, sequence and clarify thinking ...?

What do you all interpret by 'Measures short periods of time in simple ways'. Is this simply things like counting, using a sand timer and language such as in a minute??
