I'm not sure whether this is the right place to post this but I'm going to ask anyway. I have a very lovely, sweet, warm little boy who has lots of speech/language issues (he had no speech at all a year ago). One of the things he does is become 'fixated' on a phrase or sound and will repeat it over and over and over. Sometimes the phrases are a repetition of something he would say normally e.g. "I want to go to the toilet." other times a bit random - a recent one was "Thank you very much today". The noises are just noises 'aaah', 'mmm' etc. He won't be ignored - just gets louder and more persistent and continues even after having got my attention. I'm just wonde…

Hi, I have a child who has finally been recognised as having Global Learning Delay. We have decided to access the EYDJ. How often should this be referred to? Daily/weekly/monthly?? Should IEP targets be set against these steps? I have done a baseline assessment which confirms the delay. Help!

I have a little girl who was four in September and has been with us since January this year. Her speech and language is not developing as quickly as I would be expecting it to. She is very bright and understands everything and happily chats away to other children and adults. I am very concerned that her actual speech is not clear and we are struggling to understand everything that she says. I have broached the subject with Mum and they do not understand her all the time at home. I am going to refer her to SALT. But as I do this I would like some ideas from you fab lot of what more we can do to help her. We do all the usual things such as lots of talking with her, m…

We have a 2 year old little boy attending our session that has recently been diagnosed with William's syndrome. He has been with us since 6 months old and we indicated fairly early on that there were development problems but a diagnosis has taken this long to be found I've no experience of this particular syndrome but I have his therapist coming out to the setting tomorrow to see us and talk in more detail about his needs I just wondered whether anybody else has experience of supporting a little one with WS in a setting and had any tips on what we can do/provide to best support his needs and development?

Hi, could anyone help with this please. We have a child that has been in our setting for approx. 2 years. She has difficulties accessing our toilets as we are based in a community centre. Does anyone know of any kind of steps we could use for her to be independent. Dad wants her to be independent and this is one thing we are struggling with, all other issues we have come across we have addressed and succeeded. It is very important for the child as she wants to be independent too. We have an OT that helps but unfortunately everything she has suggested can't be done within the community centre, we do have a disabled toilet however we do not want her to be feel any diffe…

Hi Just after a bit of advice really... we are an open-plan packaway Preschool with around 20 children each morning: some 2 year olds, slightly more 3 year olds, (who will all be leaving us in July to go to the local school nursery). After half term we are having a little girl join us who has Down's Syndrome. I have only met her once so far - she is a dinky little thing and I know Mum has some concerns about her getting knocked over etc. I am meeting with her inclusion support worker next week as she wants to discuss the child with me - she thinks it will be an eye-opener! I spent some time doing voluntary work with Down's children many years ago, and th…

Deep breath... I am nervous about a child who will be joining our forest school group in September. The child is waiting for a speech/communication assessment. We are able to offer 1:1 support in the nursery with a small amount of discretionary funding, and it is working well. However, come September there is no additional funding in place. The child has booked to attend our forest school sessions twice a week. I am worried for her safety and also worried about compromising the safety of others. the child does not respond to instruction consistently, we use visual cue cards but the response is inconsistent. In the nursery, the child is safe, but in the open woods I'm le…
