We have got a little who used to come to our setting up until march and she is coming back in september. She has been diagnosed as being deaf and there are a number of other issues as well. I have still not done my SENCo training, our area senco is chasing it up but its been over a year now! I assume I need to get parents permission to put her on a special needs register? Has anyone got a template of a form/letter for parents to sign? I also expect she will need an IEP? Has anyone got a template for one? I have done none of this before and I've left a telephone message and email for the area senco around 2 weeks ago and heard nothing! A friend of mine sugges…

Hi All, this is a sensitive issue and I have not posted before as did not know how to put into words this particular situation, I just want people thoughts to confirm what I am doing and thinking. We were made aware by parent (father) that child had been diagnosed with ASD ,i showed empathy ,understanding etc and parent was happy for myself and SENCO to get ball rolling in terms of IEP and additional support etc. This is the difficult part- the child other parent is a member of staff, she had that morning said she needed to have chat with me , so after her hubby telling me,I took her to one side to have chat, she was tearful and said she was coming to terms with it but …

Hi everyone, I wonder if you can give me some advice?! I am supporting a little girl aged 4 due to start primary school in September. She is on EYA to support her with issues around her behaviour (she can be very 'hands on' with other children, for e.g. today when she wanted a go on the scooter she pushed the other child off). She also has some strange behaviour, she licks everything....puddles, walls, windows and nearly always has a piece of paper in her mouth which she chews! I do know when her mum was in the later stages of pregnancy her waters broke and over a period of 2 weeks she was leaking and they did suggest that she could have developmental problems (which a…

Hi I am currently running a social communication group for a downsyndrome child in my class, he is 4 but working with 22-36 months. I have had SEN inclusion service out to show us how a group session works and provide us with a few games but I would like to add more games so that we are offering more variety to him. Currently the games activities we do in this group are..... 1. Balloon game - child chooses a balloon colour and we then pump it up. They have to say bigger or stop to instruct us to pump or stop. The child then gets to hold the balloon and we count from 5 to 0 and they let it go. 2. Choosing box - in a plastic box are a selection of exciting toys.…
