Hi All I currently run a social communication group with an SEN child and was given a 'social Communication' games booklet from my LA. However, we use it every day and the games are getting a little tiring. I have devised some of my own games but now need an injection of new 'turn taking/communication' games that can be done in small groups. Does anyone have any that they use with SEN children? Thanks

Funding For 1:1 Support

Hi all, We have recently had a child start with us who is receiving funding for 1:1 support. As a setting, we do not offer a term time only place and besides this the parents have expressed their wishes for the child to attend for the 50 weeks of the year that we are open. Our issue is that the EY SEN Team will only fund her 1:1 support during term time in which case we have to fund the support for all non term time sessions, a cost that we will find very hard to meet. I am wondering if all LAs have the same policy or if anyone knows of a feasable way around this?

Does anyone have any strategies for dealing with swearing? We have ignored it, as advised, but other children give the child the reaction anyway...coming to tell us X said so and so or a 'naughty word'.... The swearing is becoming more frequent and the content stronger. Without drawing more attention to it we are not sure how to proceed

Spitting

hi im new to this so here goes...We have a child who is nearly four and due to go to school in sep. He displays a lot of low level disruption: swearing, lashing out, saying no at every opportunity...however the thing we want to tackle at the moment is his spitting. He does it pretty much constantly , at staff if they ask him to do something or not to do something, at children if they displease him. We have tried ignoring it and that didnt work and the other children started copying so now we remove him quickly and calmly from the situation as we do with his swearing and explain that behaviour is unacceptable here. But that doesnt work ans he just goes straight back and st…

Making Referrals To Other Agencies

I am in the process of referring a child for 1:1 support and as part of that, I am compiling a report based on his behaviour and interactions (as requested by his Health Visitor). I am finding it really hard trying to put into writing the impact his unwanted behaviour is having on him and the rest of the group. He appears to run around aimlessly, shouting out random words (usually swear words) totally out of context, he is difficult to engage in any activity, even it is one that directly appeals to his interests of cars, trains and helicopters, he is unable to give eye contact to adults or children and finds close interactions difficult, he will attempt to run away, s…

I KNOW that somewhere on my computer I have an assessment chart for a child's speech sounds. It gives a word that a child says and you note alongside the word what the child actually said so that you can assess progress. You do the assessment 3 times on the one sheet over a period of time. Can I find the bloomin thing? Can I billy-oh! I'd be very grateful if someone out there has one!

I have a little girl in my Reception class who has epilepsy. She has complex partial seizures (absences), mostly at home but occasionally at school. She does not want to talk about her seizures (either at home or at school) and so, although she has warning signs, does not like to tell anyone she feels unwell. Mum is really keen to find a book to help her begin to talk about her experiences. Does anyone know of any good books? I have looked on Amazon but I'm not sure if any of the books are any good. Her Mum has one book but its a bit in depth for a five year old! Any advice would be great.
