I would be grateful if anyone can direct me to a website where I can download the simple signs and symbols used for the pre-school daily visual timetable. Many thanks.

Alternative Nativity

Hi, First day of the new term and 15 weeks til Christmas has got me thinking about the annual nativity play. I am not a big fan of nativities but it is tradition at my preschool and parents love our seasonal offering. My dilemma is that this year we have a group of children who will not be able to take part for religious reasons (jehovahs witness) and I thought this could be an ideal opportunity to have a 'celebration' instead, maybe at the end of November/beginning December and was wondering if anyone had any ideas. I had in my mind that we could have a concert celebrating the diversity of children in our world but am not sure how to put this together. Does anyone kn…

IEPs

Does anyone have an IEP for 'selective mutism' that they would be willing to share, confidential information omitted of course, or perhaps some general 'pointers' or strategies. I would like to draw up a number of 'general' IEPs that could be adopted for most children with a specific difficulty. For example, I have a General IEP to support children with unclear speech; it includes: Steps to be taken by staff, including ... talk to parent/carer - do they understand the child? request for parent to arrange a hearing test if child has not had one in last 12 months General strategies to help, including ... repeat what the child says giving the correct speech mode…

I wonder if anyone can help I have a child at my setting who I am concerned about. He only comes for 3 hours per week but I have been observing him for a few months now, and something just isn't right. I can't put my finger on it, more of a gut feeling really. I have done lots of research, but can't place him neatly in a box for any condition I've heard of - which I'm sure is true of most children with some kind of SEN. I finally raised my concerns with Mum today, and she left in a state of shock, having had no cause for concern previously, and I feel terrible for causing such worry. The areas which are concerning me: He needs support moving around outside, an…

Dear All In january a little girl joined the nursery, I do not know if this is the site to display this I just need your thoughts. She is 3.7 months old has moved twice since birth - father very ill - just moved nursery before coming to us. If she doesn't get her own way she goes on a distruptive mood, knocking things down stamping on children's work. she is quite bright, recognises numbers and her letters interacts with others but doesn't like the NO word or Wait word. I have tried time out - that doesn't work - seems to enrage further - Mum sayes she is a handful but do not want to worry her as she is going through her husband's illness Can someon…
