Hi I have been asked by my employers to research the need the need for early intervention and support groups. Do you think there is a need for more early intervention with the younger children, home support with routines behaviours etc. D we need more parent support groups, sibling support groups and autism specific pre schools. Any thoughts would be helpful either as a parent or a professional. thank you in advance killowengirl

anyone know much about Munchausen syndrome by proxy? Can a parent 'make up' incidents relating to behaviour in the home, or does it just relate to taking child to the doctor for all sorts of illnesses to gain attention? I have a child in the setting whose behaviour doesn't cause any concern when he is in the setting. I feel his development is normal for his age and stage of development. He is making positive relationship with not just his key person, but with other members of the staff. He gives eye contact and responds to instructions, will follow a 3-word instruction (as in the Elklan speech and language). He plays mostly alongside other children but will involve other …

Hi everyone, Has anyone had a child with an attachment disorder in the setting and how and what were the 'signs'? I have a child who has been with us for nearly a year and although was very 'hands on' (not unusual for a 2 year old age and stage development) has now settled well and appears to have made a good relationship with his key person. He will follow the routine. If for example his key person asks him to do something he will follow her instruction. he is beginning to role play and will put three words together. What concerns me is that in the home he is aggressive to his main carer and to his family members (grandparents,. cousins etc) but we see very …

Hi, Im in the process of putting together ideas for my presentation on mathematical games. My focus is to think about how mathematical games provide inclusion for all children and how how they can be differentiated. Any ideas or examples of your own practice and observations would be great! Thanks!

Time to pick some of those brains of yours! We have child at nursery, who is going to be three before Christmas. We have had concerns about him for some time ...very little speech (odd words, very occasionally), wants to sleep all the time and screams if he's not allowed to, obsessive about trains, can't share, won't make bonds / attachments. All of these things have been ringing alarm bells for some time and we have tried and tried to talk to mum but she just laughs and says "oh bless him ... what a pickle!" and other such remarks. She has heard the other children in his cohort chattering away and she just says "he'll get there in the end". We have tried t…

We have a child who will probably need to have a dual placement at a school more set up for his complex needs and also attend the local school for a day - this is all speculation between myself and the parents, we are all awaiting a family services meeting to discuss the options and make an informed decision with funding etc....it has been a sensitive and difficult process to talk through this with the parents and I have built up a good relationship with parents, however today I walked into the room to find a member of staff talking to the mother about going to look at a local school that could help with her son, and this discussion went on whereby the practitioner gave h…
