I am currently childminding a 7 year old with ADHD and developmental delay. She is with me for 2 or 3 hours a day, while decisions are made about moving from mainstream to special school. She is on once-a-day medication (20mg) which Mum gives her each morning BEFORE she goes to school and/or me. I have now been asked to make sure I have a Care Plan in place, in case of emergency. The sample plans I have are all medical based and nothing to do with emotional or behavioural issues. I know there should be one in place at school but as there are "issues" regarding school I don't feel I can approach them to ask for a copy Does anyone have a Care Plan the…

I wonder if there is any one who can help me? I am currently a reception teacher, however I am writing this post on behalf of my son. He has significant learning difficulties, which are primarily a result of a 'syndrome' he has been diagnosed with. I should also point out that at the age of 3 years, he is still unable to walk (although he can crawl) or speak. He is due to start school in September of 2010 and I am in real sticky situation that I don't know how to solve. He currently attends a mainstream nursery, and I have been lucky enough to secure funding for him for 5 afternoons a week for 1:1 support. The nursery is not in our borough, in the next, as this is w…

Hi, I now have 2 children with diabetes in my Reception class . One is full time and one is part time at the moment. They both need their blood sugar testing during the day which means at least once if not twice during the morning I lose my TA to do this and we then need to make sure that they eat the snacks they have been given. The snack is dependent on what their blood sugar levels are and for one child we are given specific snacks for sepcific times and the other child it is sent in daily by the parents. Even when they have stable blood sugars we need to keep a close eye on them both as they tend to vary dramatically throughout the day and then we need to repeat blo…

Hi all I'm not new to the site as I have used it for years for ideas and information and think it's great but I am new to posting on here, so hi all. Wondering if some of you could help me. I work in a baby unit (0-3) and currently am studying part time BA Hons Early Childhood Studies. Our first module is the child with special needs. For my seminar I have to research an 'area' of special needs. Now, special needs is not a big specialist area of mine and as such have not worked with children with identified 'special needs' although I know children 0-3 have additional needs. I would really like to look at the support offered to potential sen in a baby unit as…

Hi there! We have a new child who is having Speech and Language Therapy. Mum gave me a letter from the SPL Therapist who says she wants us to play lip games encouraging more awareness of lip closure - he dribbles excessively. Does anyone have any first hand experience of this and do you have any exercises and games we could use as the SPL Therapist offered none. I am going to ring her tho but know you guys will come up trumps before I can get her on the phone Thanks!

Hi everyone, Myself and the SENCO at his school think my son has quite a few symptoms of dyspraxia more on the fine-motor, learning and emotional side than gross motor. Soemone from the authority is coming to obserev him this month, shall I wait for the outcome and ask for a CAF to be done or should one be done beforehand? If anyone knows of any good websites also, thanks x Thanks Nicky x
