Advice Needed
by Guest- 15 replies

Hi everyone Interested in your advice and opinions. Have a 3 yr old girl in my setting who has been with us for nearly a year. Had major problems settling, refuses to be comforted, cries a lot, wanting mummy, but will eventually settle and play in limited areas but requires lots of adult support and reassurance. She has "latched" onto a member of staff who is leaving soon and a couple of other members of staff, but if someone new comes into the setting she freaks out, starts crying again and you are back to square one, trying to get her to calm down and do an activity. She spends time watching the other children but is reluctant to join in, and uses her anxiety as a way…

Key Person
by Guest- 19 replies

Hello I was just wondering if anyone could give me some advise on the Key Person Role and if I am on the right lines please. I am a teacher in a special school and have 12 "very special little ones" in my care with 4 TA's, so obviously our situation is different to many others. I have given each TA - 3 key children (have called them key workers) and I oversee all of the children and join each group when they have time together (I am called the key person). This works well for us, and the children and staff think it works great, but ever confident Annie here, worries and wonder if I should have the class split 5 ways. The staff are all brilliant at their jobs and it giv…

Sit N Move Mats
by Guest- 2 replies

I hope you all enjoyed the holiday - its seems to have gone by in a flash! Does anybody know where I can get those sit n move cushions or whatever they are called? I think they are filled with gel and children sit on them and either fidget or feel as if they are moving so it enables them to apparently sit still happily when necessary. Thank you very much Ruthanne

Play Plan

Does anybody have a format for a play plan they could upload. I have a child with me who is progressing well in most areas - nowhere near in need of an iep - but would like to offer him some targeted support in one particular area and thought it would be good to write it up in a play plan to share with parents but not to alarm them. This child has very good play skills but is struggling to let others join him - if another child offers him a toy he turns away, if a child sits too near to him he will move, he doesn't like holding hands, messy play or trying new food (has very limited diet all consisting of similar textured food) he hates wearing a rain coat and parents fi…

End Of Year Reports For Sen
by Guest- 2 replies

My head has insisted we use the same reports for SEN children as other children (I use one for rec which I have adapted from forrmat of rest of school ones to address areas of learning). This doesn't really reflect to me the progress some of the autistic children have made and I wondered what others use?
