I wonder if anyone had come across a helpful booklet that will inform mainstream schools about a child joining them with asd. It would need to be completed by both parents and setting. Thankyou!

I went on some training today and Rainbow Road Resources were mentioned as being good for children who have dyspraxia or who need support to develop good fine motor control. The concept was started in Australia by an Occupational Therapist, but apparently they have done a lot of work in this country, particularly in Bucks. The programme costs £145 which I thought included resources - but looking at the website it looks as if its just the manual and activity cards. Does anyone use the programme and if so can they tell me whether its worth investing in? Maz

Hi. Anyone else got a copy of the new National Strategies - Early Years stand material for the Inclusion Development Programme? Its a 4 year programme the first year of which focuses on 'Supporting Schildren with Speech, Language & Communication Needs'. We went on the introductory briefing yesterday and were given the 1st pack. Well, the first booklet was printed completely wrong, half the pages missing, lots of duplicated ones..... Eventually we found some complete booklets and overall the programme seems quite good although, as usual, it preaches to the converted! Then, at the end we were told that only 1 in 4 of the accompanying dvd's work properly. I've j…

Working In A Special School?
by Guest Carlan- 3 replies

Hi, I am a teacher of a class of Reception, Y1, 2, 3 and 4!!!! in a Special school for physically disabled children but who mostly have developmental delay too. I also plan for the medium term for the nursery class .Just wondered if there is anyone else out there in similar position. I am finding Child iniitated very tricky due to the communication needs of the children and their physical needs also. A lot of activites are teacher or adult led. Do some child iniitated by giving the ch a choice of three activities but they need complete adult support to engage in these. Also makes observation very difficult. Thankyou

Dyspraxia?

Hi. I have a child who really struggles to get changed into and out of PE kit. He leaves clothes on floor, puts clothes on in wrong order and always ends up with his t-shirt on backwards (even when I help and lay out his t-shirt for him). He also has delayed fine-motor skills, doesn't show hand preference and finds it difficult to walk down stairs (although he has got a little quicker and appears a little more confident walking downstairs). I was concerned about his hips and one leg turning in. Mum took him to doctor on my advice but doctor said there is nothing wrong with his hips. He often sits in w shape (I ask him to have legs out straight or try to cross his…

Sen Inset Delivery
by Guest- 3 replies

Hi Does anyone have any ideas for delivering inset to a group of teachers from Nursery to Year 7 around children's needs. I want them to feel what it is like to be a child with reading difficulties or asperger's. This will lead into discussions about strategies in class (maybe something on identifying children with dyslexia etc). We are a British school overseas and do not have much access to EPs, SALT etc. I am SENCO. We have four children with diagnoses of dyslexia (all diagnosed by independent EPs in England), one girl with cerebral palsy and one newly diagnosed with Autusm (from Centre for Autism, Holland) - as well as others at School Action. Would love …
