The very second he walked through the door he started. we have all of the children sit down for 5 minutes while they come in and settle and are registered I said morning with a big smiley face and asked him to sit at his table and straight away he said no and from there is just deteriorated. He has spent the morning screaming at the top of his voice if anyone comes near him. he grabbed anothers childs foot in the climbing frame and wouldn't let her go and she was just stuck h…

Frustration!

We have 2 children in our setting with behavioural difficulties. One has a statement, the other has only just joined us and as yet does not. The child without the statement was observed by our ed psych today and she said she does not feel he needs a statement when i asked why she said becuase you are already doing a great job with him. I felt very frustrated and said yes but at the expense of the other children. He takes up so much of my time and whilst i do not in anyway resent him for this, it is very unfair on the other children as they are not getting a lot of my time. Sorry i just wanted to rant. The more you do the more people expect you to do!!

Looking For A Puzzle?

Hi, I recently watched an Early Bird (support group for parent's with children with autism) training DVD. It showed a little girl playing with a jigsaw puzzle, each piece that she put in she had to use a wooden rod with a magnet on the end and each jigsaw piece was also magnetic. Not sure how well I am explaining it but if anybody has seen one and knows where I could get hold of one I would appreciate it. Thanks Julie

If You Think A Child Has A Sen...

We have never had a child with SEN in our gruop so far (we have been running three years) that has stayed with us longer than a few weeks (sounds bad but they were moved from their old nursery a6 weeks before they were due to start school so there wasn't much time) Any way we had a child that joined us last spring. We have always had a bit of trouble with him behaviour wise and at one point we had to ask mum to take him out for a few week as we felt he was still a little young to be in the group. We added sessions that are specifically for younger children and children who were not ready to leave their mums dads yet etc ( they are quiet sessions with only 12 or 13 …

Hi If you have read my post below you will know about my current predicament. I have had a verbal agreement from a mum that I can ask our local SENCO team to some down but I could do with a written consent form or some ideas of words that I can add to mine - I have only ever had to do this once and the parents before were already aware that the child has SEN. If anyone had got one that would be great thanks Deb

Help! Tidy Up Time - No
by Guest- 10 replies

I've just started 1:1 support of a Reception child with developmental delays - 2 1/2 year old - waiting a statement. He's coping in our indoor and outdoor resource areas where play is non-directed. However, at the end of ANY session he dosen't want to end and he hears TIDY UP he immediately runs away, starts playing with anything, says 'no'......a toddler tantrum. Does anyone have any strategies to deal with the end of a session??? Cheers Kate
