A friend has just sent me a link to a wonderful Facebook Page called "Stress Overload at School". https://www.facebook...01041972&type=1 There are some pictures across the top of the page and as you scroll through them they are annotated with really good information about how children with sensory processing difficulties may experience a school setting and what can be done to help them. It is also relevant to Early Years settings. It would be very, very helpful if those of you who work in schools could share the page with other school staff. Many parents of children with ASD find it very hard to explain to teachers that, although their child appears to…

We have had a child with us since he was 6 months old. He went to school last September - we had identified him as having SEN and were working with him as EYA+. Parents not seeing a problem and very reluctant to get help, sign papers, send letters off etc - we perservered and manage inhis last year with us to get some LA inclusion team in to observe and they were workign with us. During transition for Reception we had meetings at our setting with school SENCo and new Reception teacher who were horrified at his level of need but appreciated that without full parental support we were doing the best we could - LA inclusion team were also having no luck with parents. Tran…

Hi All, Spent some time working with my SENCO this afternoon and she mentioned about implementing a "spiky chart" for tracking SEN children's development following a meeting she had with our area SENCO last week. However, I can't seem to find a template for the chart. Has anyone heard of this or could maybe share a copy with us? Thanks

hello I am hoping someone may be able to help me please. I have a child in reception in mainstream school with a diagnosis of classic autism. She is at present waiting for a place in a special needs school which we dont expect to occur until September. She is in a foundation stage unit which is huge and not sensory sensitive by any means, it is loud busy and bright. She has echolalic speech for much of the time but can say toilet when she wants and jug if she wants a drink. She does have some other basic words as well. At the moment she is running around the classroom pulling things off walls and units to get the blue tac and the teacher in the class believes you…

Oh and 6 kids tube fed out of the 7 in means my TAs were v busy! Things will get better as we get used to it. Got one ta in on mon and tues so she's not worked with the kids yet and another hopefully bqck in after being off all week so things can only get better eh?

Feeling I need some advice regarding a child at my setting, he joined us last Sept and from beginning KP shared with me she had concerns about his general development and having observed him and also carried out the 2-year development check, feel this little boy has a global development delay in all the prime areas. Initially, bearing in mind the 'softly softly' approach, going down the speech and language checklist with mum asked if okay for me to refer for speech and language assessment. In November, at the review meeting, working in partnership with child's HV, suggested mum go to GP and share our concerns (mum feels that he has made some improvement since starting wi…

Hi Does anyone have a SEN standard letter that they give to parents once they have placed a child on the SEN register. I was thinking of confirming in writing, following face to face discussion, the fact that we have put a child on the register, why and what stragegies we will be using and confirming a date for follow up. I have got to the point of numerous discussions with parents, HV appointments, Area Senco, etc etc and parents still ticking the 'no special need' box on the early years entitlement form. I think we need to make this clearer now. What do others think?

Hii, I applied for a job in a special school which i didn't think i had much of a chance but got an interview on friday!! I currently work in a preschool and am the SENCo, i was just wondering if anyone had any advice or key things to get in there or any questions i could ask at the end. Also it says in the letter that i will have to do practical tasks.. not sure what this entails has anyone had any experience or ideas of what this may be, as thats the biggest thing that i'm nervous about as i have no idea of what it may be lol. Any advice or comments would be great! thank yooou xx
