I deliver training around the country and have been hearing from providers that the funding they receive for children with Special Educational Needs/Disabilities to provide additional support and resources is becoming more and more difficult to access and is some cases, is being withdrawn completely. Added to this, sources of support and advice from advisers/consultants i n the Local Authority are being decimated so providers are completely alone. In my opinion this is completely unacceptable and isn't fair on providers, parents and most importantly, children. I've contacted the DfE to express my concerns and their reply to me states: We are keen to work with provide…

In your setting who is allowed to write out references? In our setting a member of staff has recently left and we have received a email asking one of the Pre School Assistants to write a reference for her. She is suitably qualified to level 3 so i can not see the problem with her doing it but have been told by a senior member of the staff team that only leaders and deputy's are allowed to fill them out but if the the ex member of staff have not asked for us should i let the assistant do it i don't want her to feel like im pushing her out because she's not qualified enough when in fact she is really???? x x x

Hi guys I'm room leader in a pdn, having major issues with the staff in my room. I feel i am going round in circles having to ask the same things day in day out and repeat myself about planning, cleaning, routine, consistency etc. I have particular problems with one member of staff, and the others are starting to follow suit. Its like she's the ringleader. I'm trying so hard to improve our setting but feel like I'm getting nowhere! Any advice or similar situations welcome! Thanks x

A prospective parent came to visit the pre-school today. she is moving into the area and at the moment her child attends another pre-school. Everything she looked at she said "they have that at the other PS" or "there's is bigger than that" etc, etc. When she saw our laptop, she said "Oh, they have ipads at the other PS". That made me think - Am I behind the times with our computer and a mouse? I realise that children have ipads, etc at home and are probably not used to using a mouse. Just wondering whether I ought to start fundraising?? What do you have? V
