Or should I say my premonition - Ofsted came today and we got GOOD - hoorah , can't believe the weight that has lifted off my shoulders , inspector was amazing , so professional yet personable, gave constructive feedback and even met my area senco . When the inspector turned up I was in a meeting with her and actually went and told the inspector I was busy and would she mind if I continued my meeting due to it's importance , she happily obliged and then spoke to her after. Cheers fellow forum friends - feeling happy and enjoying a large glass of Fleurie x

Am I the only Manager who has had enough? I am totally fed up with parents constantly moaning and complaining about things we do do or don't do. I try to make all my letters as simple as possible, explaining things as clear as I can but some of them just don't seem capable of understanding the most simple of things. This morning was just the 'straw that has broken the camel's back' - a parent wanting to make an official complaint because I didn't put her son's gloves on when we went outside! Am I being unreasonable or am I in the wrong? I used to love my job but I have applied for another one tonight doing something different, not sure I would actually take the plunge b…

We have 3 year old twins - boy and girl - and the boy struggles at circle time, he will constantly run round and round the room and laughs thinking it is a game if any of us try to get him to come and sit down. The situation is that we are a packaway setting and 2 days a week we finish at 1, some children leave at 12 and some stay for lunch then leave at 1, this little one stays for lunch and typically the children sit down just after 12 and lunch normally finishes between 12.30 and 12.40. We HAVE to get the children sitting down for an amount of time which enables us to clear away etc in time for the children to go and be out of the hall ready for the next hirers. Now …

Hi This last week has made me doubt my abilities in all aspects of my job. As a result I have been trying to find information with what is deemed as on target for a particular age and realise nothing exists. Now I don't feel it's as clear cut as if a child is 42 months and emerging in the 30-50 bracket they are on target. Equally a child who is 42 months and is secure in the 40-60 bracket is on target for there development. Sure secure in 40-60 would mean they are above target. I contacted my local sure start teacher who said we have no set criteria. My staff team and co manager believe that if regardless of where a child is so emerging, developing or secure a…

Our staff file is just bursting at the seams.... I know we obviously have to keep the job application/interview forms etc, we also have a health/criminal convictions declaration form but apart from that they are just stuffed with copies of tonnes of training certificates - does everyone keep copies of these? I was thinking of creating a sheet where I can put the date of training, name of course, then I sign to say I have seen the original certificate - is that acceptable does anyone know??

We are in a church hall and have been told that there has to be a new smoke detector and fire alarm system installed and the work begins next week, taking 2 - 3 weeks. It can't be done at any other time as the building is unsafe without it! So there will be workmen in the building while the children are there, although the plan is for the work on our rooms to be done in half term. They will still be working in different areas though. Panicking a bit as to what risk assessments/ procedures to put in place and what to tell Ofsted. We are due anytime so don't want to be caught out. Has anyone else had to deal with this and can give me some pointers please? Would be much a…

Does anyone know where I can find an audit to use at our nursery. Our LA did one but it's now quite out of date. Do you use one in your setting?

Ok we had an incident at Pre-School today involving 3 children and our bathroom area. We rent a classroom from a school and the toilets/basins are part of the classroom, there isn't a door or anything you just walk into the bathroom are (bit of background info!!). A child was using the toilets today and called for a member of staff to clean their bottom after, when in there the child told the member of staff that another child had touched her down below after being told to do so by another child. The member of staff was standing near by so it would have happened in seconds not over a prolonged time as staff knew which children where in there. The child who touched deni…

Hi all, Sorry to ask the ratio question again, but I am in need of a bit of help and support. I am in the process of buying a preschool and I need to get my head around the ratios but with particular reference to the qualifications of the staff. So on one day I have: 4 x 2-3 year olds and 22 x 3-4 year olds I would need 1 member of staff to be with the 2-3's and 3 members of staff to be with the 3-4 year olds, I get that bit! I have 4 members of staff, one QTS, 2 x L3 and 1 unqualified (UQ). My question is, can I count the UQ member of staff in the ratios? On one day, I have 8 x 2-3's and 15 x 3-4's but with still only 4 members of staff. Is this right? My co…
