We have introduced a water only rule into Playgroup this week. Lots of Mum's have complained but I have explained that it's following Ofsted guidelines and it is a rule of school where they will go up anyway in Sept. Today the y have come in with juice again, what do I do?

I own and manage a 44 place day nursery. Our staff team has grown considerably over the past couple of years due to staff having babies, then returning part-time so creating two jobs from one. We are now a team of 18 which I have to admit, I find difficult to manage (just the size of the team, not the people themselves...mostly!) On our first day back in the new year, one of my full time staff told me she is pregnant. The following day another full time member of staff gave me the same news. Yesterday a third. I know another member of staff is 'trying' for her second baby and I have a strong suspicion a further full time staff member may be expecting. My head is sp…

Ok so its policy update time argghhhh but onwards and upwards! I was wondering when updating our non-payment of fees policy - How many of you state in your policy that you will inform the next provider (early years only) of arrears being left on a child's account? Not the actual amount and not that the other nursery shouldn't take the child on, just so that they can be cautious so that the family does not run up another bill at the new setting. A setting in Nursery World stated they did so a while back and I thought it was a good idea (all for one and all that) as no matter how hard you try to be in getting fees in sometimes it doesn't work and a bit of give and tak…

Why is it that whenever a parent doesn't like something these days, they immediately threaten reporting you? I had a situation at the end of last week, where a child did another poo that morning and when we went to change the child we realised the child had run out of wipes. It was 15 minutes before going home and so we didn't ring Mum (now realise this was a big mistake!) Mum says she put a brand new packet in the bag that week. (it wasn't and the child was only in 2 days) Mum went mad, kept her other child off on Friday and has sent me 3 unpleasant e-mails over the weekend and said if my response isn't to her liking she threatened me saying she would take action. …

We rent a classroom in a local school, have noticed today that we have not hot water in our toilets. School are going to get a plumber out but this could take a few days to resolve, am I right in thinking without hot running water in the toilets that we can't open? I'm sure it's part of welfare but don't want to jump the gun and close unnecessarily, we are way overdue ofsted! Haven't been on here for a while and forgot how good it is to be able to ask these things!

Hi Everyone, Wondering if anyone has any words of advice, as I am struggling on how to deal with one member of staff in particular. I have a room leader in the room, however I feel that she does address matters with this difficult member of staff (staff a) however she will turn a blind eye to some matters. I feel if she was on her case more staff a would be easier to manage and how what the exceptions are. For instance the room leader has told me the following : Staff A will talk to the child however limited and do it only for the sake of doing it. Staff A will sit and write for long periods without spending quality time with the children. (Taking over 5 mins …
