Hi all and a Happy New Year. Sadly our pre-school were informed that one of our recently retired ex members of staff with 23 years service, had passed away on News Years Day. Think I'm still in shock as she texted me News Years Eve to wish me a Happy New Year. As you can imagine we are all devastated as we have always been a very close team. Now that the funeral arrangements have been made, I have made the decision to close the setting to enable all staff members to attend. I have sent out a letter explaining this to parent/carers, but should I notify anyone else. Any thoughts will be gratefully received. Fx

Does anyone add wet wipes to the role play area? Not sure if this is 'allowed'. Any thoughts?

Does anyone have any good ideas for activities that parents can do at home to link to a topic of 'machines'? I have thought about giving instructions to their little 'robot' e.g. put away your book then get your coat. But I would like some more ideas if anyone has any good suggestions!

We interviewed for a pre-school practitioner before Christmas, and appointed someone to start yesterday. She arrived and announced that she found out she was pregnant over Christmas. She is on probation for 6 months. What are the legal implications for maternity pay? Anyone have any advice? Thanks!

How many times in one term can you feel that you can't take no more! Run up to Christmas and in a minefield of trying to invoke disciplinary... think I'm getting close to edge. Is everyone having such a hard term???

Would anyone be willing to share the template they use for training plans. I don't like the one we current use. It would be good to see a few examples.

I seem to be having a lot of staff tattle tailing to me all the while. I've always said to staff to deal with it to themselves but it's getting to a point now where it's really annoying me know. It just seem to be little things brought to me like so and so didn't take the bins out or so and so didn't do x. I always reply well did you tell them and they say 'no' and I tell them to raise it with each other. How else do other's deal with this?
