I know that taking in 2s has been challenging to many of us. The thing that we have discovered is that the number of resources available to the children for free choice now seems to be far too much. The 2s just empty every box they can get their hands on onto the floor and the level of chaos seems to have gone up hugely! So can I ask how many different resources do you have available? How much of each toy like Stickle bricks? How do you cope with such young children and tidying when we are so outnumbered?!

We are a sessional pre-school but some children stay all day. Parents provide a packed lunch. There is a lot of food wasted. This year we had our party in the afternoon. In the morning we took the children to the shops to choose the food. The children made sandwiches, iced biscuits, helped to cut up the fruit. We were amazed how well the children ate. Do you have to jump through hoops to provide this service every day. I would either have to charge a small amount to cover or increase fees.I am already registered with environmental health.

I was just doing a forum search and came across an old thread from 2009 which was about having only 2 members of staff at the setting. At my setting there is only me and one other member of staff due to the fact we only have a maximum of 12 children at any time. At present the most we have is 8. We simply cannot afford another member of staff. Does anyone think this is not good practice and shouldn't happen? We have been running the past 2yrs fine and Ofsted never mentioned it, our improvement advisor has never picked up on it and the parents are happy but after reading that old thread I just got a bit concerned! We are quite happy with how things work and ou…

HI Just wondered what others do. I am manager of packaway setting (2 staff up to 16 children). Got a little boy that will be staying with us in the mornings and then starting to do school nursery 3 afternoons starting in Jan. He used to claim 15 hrs Nursery grant with us so we got 7.5 hrs/wk funded support for 1:1 (highest number of children in at the moment is 12 on one day). Now his funding is claimed by school our 1:1 funding has been cut to 3 hrs/wk, however the numbers of our children are to go up to 12-16 per day. Given that we are packaway and there is only 2 of us I am not sure how we are going to manage (one of us has to tidy whilst other does storytime etc). …

Does anyone have information sheets for parents that basically condense the full policies. For example having made a referral recently after a child made a disclosure I feel it would be useful for all parents to fully understand that we are not accusing them off anything when we are referring. That we have a duty of care and we HAVE to pass on certain information for ss yo investigate.

We are currently working on the provision within our setting aiming to improve everything - the environment, the materials and resources and the way they are displayed. I have experienced only good and outstanding settings with practitioners who have a similar vision to me. Unfortunately I am working with a staff team who have not experienced working in a setting with someone inspiring them and it seems they do not understand what I am talking about (this includes my room leaders). We had a great visit from our Early Years Advisory Teacher today who has really given me some ideas on how to show them and now I want to get some more information from you . I am looking fo…

Just a quick question, as manager of a setting with 29 2,3 and 4 yr olds I have struggled as a key person, so have now had to give up this demand. How many of you deputy/managers are keypersons and how do you manage it?

If anyone does what I do and read all recent Ofsted reports in our locality area I've been told about this website, I've not stumbled across it before so thought if share it for others that have not heard of it either ( it can be a little addictive) http://www.watchsted.com/
